Rising from the Dark Side of Life - Joseph C. Plourde
Preface
I have written Rising from the Dark Side of Life in hopes that the reader will visualize my own life and realize how fortunate one can be to not have to go through life as my family and I did. I hope my readers will also understand how wonderful it can be to be rescued by the wonderful grace of God, our Heavenly Father.
This is the story of my childhood and how I lived through very harsh poverty. It is a story about how I experienced some very troublesome difficulties fighting with a demon for some time. And it is a story about how I was finally rescued by the wonderful grace of God and live to tell about it—and go on to live a happy, productive, and successful life.
The story in this book is the real truth about me and my family. I spent a great deal of time researching to gather all the real true information that I needed. I wrote Rising from the Dark Side of Life with love, and with the intention of helping anyone who may have experienced living with the kinds of difficulties I lived with, so that they can understand the real problems that they once had or are still having. I hope this book helps people learn how to deal with these problems and finally get rid of them completely so that they can also live a happy life with peace of mind. Everyone deserves to live a happy life, in harmony, and with success and prosperity, for we all know that is God’s will for everyone, and there is no exception because everyone is equal in the eyes of the Lord. Amen.
Introduction
It is my true and sincere pleasure to introduce Rising from the Dark Side of Life to you and to be able to talk to you as a concerned friend and brother in Christ, someone who is always ready and willing to do whatever it takes to help anyone in any way I can.
I welcome you to go through this life journey with me. I am certain that it will open your eyes, and I am certain that you will be happy and you will appreciate what you learn from the words in this book.
I have written Rising from the Dark Side of Life in hopes that it will be easy for anyone to read and understand. I want my readers to grasp the realization of how fortunate so many people are, not having to live through a devastating and troubled life such as the one I lived as a child with my family.
The content of this book has been sitting on the back burner, as we say, for quite a long time, and after gathering enough truthful information, I found it was time to reveal the truth about myself and the very poor family I grew up with.
Some passages of this text will probably touch some readers emotionally because of the hard times and struggle that I experienced through my life’s journey, especially because I ended up with more problems than the others in my family had.
You will realize how powerful prayers can be when we are at the bottom of the barrel, as we say, and call upon the Lord to help and rescue us from the enemy—the devil—and how wonderful it is to be rescued by the grace of God, especially when you need him the most.
I am very happy to have the opportunity to introduce to you Rising from the Dark Side of Life because I know that it will be a great help to anyone who reads it carefully and pays close attention to what it’s revealing. It is my hope that readers will realize for themselves how fortunate they are that they don’t have to go through life as I did in my early years. But I did come out of it with the glorious help of God, and readers will probably find more appreciation for their own lives and will certainly realize how much they really take for granted. I hope this book will also give them the opportunity to see life itself in a different perspective, which will make them feel happier with themselves and with the life all around.
I am certain that by the time readers have finished the book, they will come to understand the purpose of life and its reality for everyone. They should also come to know how to deal with personal problems and how to get rid of those problems—even problems that may have kept them in a certain bondage for so long in their lives. Readers may be able to find the answers to problems that they couldn’t find before and grow through life to become happy and successful as I did.
The main reason that I wrote Rising from the Dark Side of Life is that I know there are many people in this world who are having difficulties coping with life and don’t seem to be able to know and see the real joy of living. Sometimes it seems as if there is no one that they can find to help them; however, many times reading a book such as this one can give them the information and hope they need to overcome their problems. Some people are too shy to talk to someone else about their problems; they may be afraid that others might just think there is something wrong with them. We all deserve to turn ourselves around and start living more promising and glorious lives. I really feel for people who don’t know who they can entrust their problems to, who don’t know who they can talk to and get help from with respect and dignity and confidentiality. Many people don’t realize that God is always there ready and willing to help anyone as soon as he is called upon for help.
Therefore, I wrote Rising from the Dark Side of Life with the understanding that it will be a great help to anyone. I believe that this is the best way that I can reach out to so many wonderful people. That is my goal—to reach those who need help. I am now on my way to reaching the goal that I set for myself so long ago. Of course, this book wouldn’t have been written without the help of God.
I have also reached another one of my goals, one that I set previous to this one, by writing a book called Both Feet on the Spiritual Path. In the fulfillment of that goal, I also reached out to help people from all over the world. It has been a true joy and happiness for me to be able to do so. I have been a Christian since the early part of 1980s, and God has called upon me to spread his holy Word to anyone who is willing to listen and learn from it. God has guided me to write books that will help anyone physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
I now live a happy life in the village of St. George in Manitoba, Canada. I enjoy my work as a carpenter, plumber, preacher, and writer. I also play music and sing to congregations in and for the glory of God.
God has been guiding me through my life for quite some time, and I enjoy every minute of the journey.
My heart is with you, and I wish you all the best in your future.
I pray for God to help you with your understanding and bring you peace of mind and happiness in all the years to come.
I love you, and I will keep you in my prayers.
May God bless you with success and prosperity. Amen.

Chapter 1
The Beginning of a Troubled Family
This true story is about a man who has experienced life at the bottom of the barrel, as we say, as a young child and grew to become successful with the help of the Lord Jesus Christ. I hope you will realize how truthful this text is and how powerful Jesus Christ really is when you call upon him for help, especially when you really mean it with all your heart.
This story may be disturbing to some readers, but it was a very true reality for a very poor and troubled family, especially for one of the children—myself—who had a very difficult problem to conquer. Our family lived in a very poor area of southeastern Canada in the early part of the 1900s, when it was very difficult for many families to make a decent living. In fact, because of the two world wars in the first half of the 1900s, it was very difficult for some families to make a decent living anywhere in the world.
My parents, Camil and Ida, were both from Eastern Canada. Camil was from the small town of Blue River in the province of Quebec, and Ida was from the city of Edmundston in the province of New Brunswick. They met while Camil was working in Edmundston; they were married in 1926. Eventually, they raised a family of twelve children. I was born in December of 1946 during very difficult times just after the Second World War had ended. Therefore, we might say that I was
