    Game Changer - Kyle Dietrich

    Introduction

If you are reading this book, or may have just picked it up to determine if there is value inside, you are already one of millions who put forth the effort to seek improvement: improvement in their results, improvement in themselves, and improvement in life in general.

Being a sales and sales leadership professional, I too have read many publications with the intent of learning, improving, seeking that next rung on the ladder, whether it is professionally or financially inclined. So why this book? Why does the content within the confines of this book cover matter to you? Why do these words of wisdom carry weight, and how can they truly benefit you?

From a results perspective, I come from twenty-three–plus years of executing in a sales capacity both individually and extensively in sales leadership roles. In thirteen years as a vice president of sales for three different entities, I have faced down the most difficult of clients and tackled the most challenging of goals. I’ve been kicked out of offices, been told my company is a joke and that I should find a real job, and overcome all those scenarios to drive success. I’ve sat elbow to elbow with stiff competition and pressed forward with consistent results that exceeded objectives time and time again. In building successful sales organizations, I have hired hundreds, coached people to success, and watched many fall by the wayside.

In the process of overcoming the challenges and facing the objections of an industry pitch for pitch, account by account, and success story over success story, I began to find a clear pattern for success that revealed itself through the building of successful sales teams and individuals. To find sustained success, we need to face our own fears and completely understand our role in our results.

In your development, it is important to feel the sting of failure and discover the powerful motivational tool these experiences can give you. I have talked the talk, and I have walked the walk and, in doing so, have helped create a myriad of highly -compensated sales professionals.

In this book, I can share with you the common themes that become apparent in those individuals who separated themselves from the pack, and earned a healthy income in the process.

On a personal level, I’ve overcome cancer, I’m a full-time single dad, and I have met and overcame the challenge of a sudden career change in the most challenging of economies. My message to you is simple: I have overcome great challenges in life, and I have built high-performing success stories in both individuals and sales teams, and you can benefit from these experiences.

In this book, I will share with you where the true catalyst for improved results in sales, and in life can come from. The sharing of best practices and the keys to success in this book are based on real world experiences and seeing the rise and fall of sales professionals, as well as human beings, as we stumble and climb our way through the game of life.

    Chapter 1

    Focus

Focus. Such a simple word yet filled with such great intention and energy channeled in the right direction. With the right focus and the proper motivation, a forward-thinking individual becomes unstoppable. Their resolve and commitment to follow through becomes fueled by the mission or vision they have created for themselves.

Where does this focus and drive come from? Why do some people stand out in a crowd and carry themselves with an intended focus that others just don’t seem to possess?

Internally these high-achieving individuals have created their own personal mission statement. The key here is personal. It must be centered on your own goals and levels of achievement you want to exceed. Because the goals are personal in nature, they can take on many forms:

I want to make $300,000 in one year by the end of my third year with my job.

"I want to purchase a home for my family and provide a life of financial
