    INTERIOR: Audition

An ACTOR lost in thought holding a script sits on a metal chair in a waiting room surrounded by other actors.

    ACTOR

An actor’s life is one of constant rejection. You stand metaphorically naked in front of a bunch of cynical studio-types going through the motions when in fact they’ve already made-up their minds on the latest Brad Pitt or Matt Damon.

It’s even worse for people like me, a specialist, mine, doing impressions. It’s what I’m good at: being someone else.

I’m what you’d call a METHOD ACTOR, I don’t just mimic characters, I become them. It’s not easy living with multiple personalities, not easy for me, and not easy for the woman sleeping beside me.

In the end it was too much for CLAIRE...

A dejected actor comes out of the audition room signalling the next person to enter. The ACTOR gets up and enters the room full of various studio-types holding binders and clipboards sitting behind a camera operated by a bored cameraman. The ACTOR starts reciting his monologue by memory.

    ACTOR

Why weren’t you at the meeting? You’re supposed to be at the goddamn meeting. You get paid to be at the meeting. You don’t come to the meeting nothing gets done. Nothing gets done we don’t get paid. We don’t get paid; I get mad. And you my friend, don’t want to see me mad.

The CASTING DIRECTOR raises his hand signalling the ACTOR to stop.

    CASTING DIRECTOR

Very nice, very nice... It says here...

The CASTING DIRECTOR looks down at the binder in his lap.

    CASTING DIRECTOR

    ...that you do impressions.

    ACTOR

Sure, Walken, De Niro, Pacino, Depp, Bogart...

People start shouting out their favourites. So the ACTOR launches into the same monologue continuously changing characters.

    GENERIC VOICES

Do Walken... Do Pacino... Do Bogie...

    ACTOR

Why weren’t you at the meeting? You’re supposed to be at the goddamn meeting. You get paid to be at the meeting. You don’t come to the meeting nothing gets done. Nothing gets done we don’t get paid. We don’t get paid; I get mad. And you my friend, don’t want to see me mad!

The people in the room are laughing and applauding.

    CASTING DIRECTOR

Now that was funny, very funny. You...
