About this ebook

Before science, fertility drugs, and in vitro fertilization, women turned to ancient and traditional wisdom to help make their dreams of motherhood come true. The concepts presented in this book derive from traditional European, American, and Asian metaphysical and folklore.
While they should not be understood as directions, recommendations, or prescriptions of any kind, they provide a fascinating overview of the ways our ancestors went about increasing the likelihood of becoming pregnant and excellent tips for the modern couple seeking to become pregnant!

Many ancient secrets from a variety of cultures worldwide are included, among them traditional symbols, colors, herbs, and foods. These are traditions and methods that worked for the women of the past, our grandmothers, great grandmothers, great-great-grandmothers, and the mothers before. These fertility symbols are a part of our history. They are part of our own culture and part of the myth and folklore of other cultures.

Fertility wisdom exists in our ancestral memory, in the very cells that make up our bodies. The symbols are powerful, magical, like a sacred prayer to the heavens. They have worked for generations, and they can work for you, too!

    About Donna Stellhorn.

    Foreward

In the northern parts of the African nation of Namibia, a tribe lives on the banks of the Kunene River. When a woman of this tribe decides she wants a child, she goes off away from the tribe. She sits under a tree and is quiet for a time.

She listens until she hears the song of her child. Committing the child's song to memory, she returns to the tribe and teaches her partner this song. As they make love, they sing the song to each other to welcome the child. It is said the child's spirit hears this song and comes to be with these parents.

Overall, this book is all about hearing your child's song and learning to sing their song so you can call the child into your life. I wish you great happiness in your journey. I hope with all my heart that your journey leads you to your goal of a child.

Yet, I hope you also understand that sometimes it's God's will that we follow another path or shift our direction. So, I hope you try the ideas outlined in this book with hope and optimism, and I hope you also trust God's greater plan is right for you—whether or not the plan includes a child.

    Introduction

Abby is ready to have a child. Her tender heart is prepared to scoop that child up in her arms and love her wholly and completely. Abby's ready. But now, after months of trying—actually many months—still no pregnancy. Abby is losing hope. Her eyes well up with tears whenever she thinks about it. What else can she try? Is there some way she can make this happen?

Does this sound familiar? Do you feel like Abby? Is there an empty place in your heart waiting to be filled with love for a child?

Have you been trying to get pregnant with no result? Is the process leaving you with an empty feeling, a fear it will never happen?

It's a wacky world out there. Some women never expected children, yet get pregnant faster than you can say sperm count. Others struggle for years, experiencing emotional and physical hardships trying to get pregnant.

There is plenty of scientific research looking for a solution to infertility. But before science, fertility drugs, and in vitro fertilization, women turned to ancient and traditional wisdom to help make their dreams of motherhood come true.

This book contains information about these traditions, about the symbols and methods that worked for the women of the past, the grandmothers, great grandmothers, great-great-grandmothers, and the mothers before that—our ancestors. These fertility symbols are a part of our history. They are part of our own culture and tradition and part of other cultures' myths and folklore.

This wisdom exists in our ancestral memory, in the very cells that make up our bodies. These symbols are powerful, magical—like a sacred prayer to the heavens. They have worked for generations, and they can work for you, too!

I can remember, back in my late teens as a single girl at my first job. A fellow employee was several months pregnant. When she left to give birth and spend time with her baby, her chair passed from woman to woman in the office, all hoping to have the fertility luck rub off on them. It must have worked, because there were three births to employees of the company within the following year. I recall the sudden panic I felt when I realized I was sitting in the pregnant woman's chair. Somehow I dodged that bullet and sailed through the next couple of months without a pregnancy!

In this book, I've collected information and anecdotes about dozens of symbols and traditional practices you can try—things you can do or test out to increase fertility. Some are things that might surprise you. For instance, pearls, chocolate, and peacock feathers have been used for hundreds, if not thousands of years, as symbols to help women conceive.

There are items and traditional activities used by our ancestors to put couples in the right frame of mind, emotionally and spiritually. These may not be concepts you hear from your doctor. However, many scientists now find that our mental and emotional states affect how our bodies function.

The things in our space and where we live, where we sleep, and where we make love affect us on a very basic emotional, physical, and divine spiritual level.

While I don't expect any of the book's ideas to be mistaken for medical advice, let me clearly state here, and for the record, I am not a Medical Doctor. I'm an Astrologer and Feng Shui expert with over 20 years' experience as a consulting professional and many more years of study and practice leading into my profession.

Over the years of helping clients use Astrology to find the right time and the techniques of Feng Shui to create the right home environment, I have seen some remarkable things happen—by making a few adjustments or trying some changes in the living environment.

I have heard the happiness first hand from women around the world who called to talk about their fertility concerns and who subsequently wanted to let me know, I'm pregnant! This book contains some of what I've learned over the years working with fertility folklore from around the world.

I also want you to know that I do not have children. I was born with a T-shaped uterus, so I could not conceive—and am now past the time when even medical intervention could help. This is one reason I have been so interested in learning about the myths and traditions connected to fertility.

I have listened to other women's stories, seeking to help them any way I can with their desire to get pregnant. I feel through this work, and through them, I have, in some small way, helped to welcome many children into the world.
