About this ebook

Imagine a life where things go right 90% of the time, with less stress, more productivity, and greater prosperity. All you need to begin is desire, determination, and an easy-to-follow plan. Many people see Feng Shui as mysterious, religious-like, somewhat confusing, and very complicated. But Feng Shui is actually easy to learn and simple to use. There is nothing complicated. And the reward is, in many ways, a new life. Feng Shui: So Easy A Child Can Do It is aimed at ending the confusion and showing everyone just how easy Feng Shui is to learn and to apply. There are step-by-step, actionable guidelines that help eliminate stress at home and in the workplace, improve relationships, generate success and abundance, energize the home and the personal environment, and enable readers to live the peace-filled, abundant lives to which they are all entitled. It is a simple, easy-to-apply Americanized method of using Feng Shui as a guide to the use of color, design, and organization principles to remove clutter and disorder while enhancing personal growth, improved relationships, prosperity, and joy, leading to transformed lives. These principles also help business leaders streamline and transform their companies, resulting in employee satisfaction, client retention, and bottom-line profitability. The result is increased efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity in a less stressful work environment. It is a road map to changes that lead to personal and business success and abundance. Based on over 15 years of personal experience as a Feng Shui expert, business consultant, and spiritual artist, Pat Heydlauff takes readers to the very heart of the principles of what Feng Shui is and isn't. Included are simple plans to help you make way for positive energy success. This book offers real solutions that can be put to use immediately, even on a limited budget.

    About the Author

    Preface

As the world was fast-approaching the new millennium and you heard Y2K everywhere, my life came crashing down around me – not the computers – but me. I had parted ways years earlier with a high-stress, energy-draining corporate career that had me saying repeatedly, This job is killing me. The high anxiety, excessive travel, and constant stress were taking a real toll on my physical and spiritual well-being.

However, several years later, firmly ensconced in a new career path, I still had not learned the lessons of how to control the stress, eliminate negative thinking, and create the balanced world my body and mind were desperately seeking. I was still drowning in old thinking, and all sorts of clutter in my surroundings and mind, with no visible way out.

Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, an accident (of my own creation) left me blind in my right eye. Not only had the lens in my eye been shattered – so had my life. My new career as a decorative artist, my physical body, and my emotional and spiritual self had been dealt a crippling blow.

By then my creative right-brain side had taken control of my life, somehow knowing that I needed balance in my life more than ever.

When I was younger, a mother fully involved with the raising of two precious children, I would listen to motivational tapes for hours, on the power of positive thinking and taking control of your life. I also had listened to inner-journey music. But, somehow, through the years and the chaos created by a life out of control, I forgot these valuable lessons. I forgot about the messages of hope and peace that my physical and emotional self so longed for but my mind had turned away from.

This began a long journey inward that at times seemed endless – like a vast wilderness with no roadmap, no instruction manual, and no way home. Somewhere in the middle of my searching I started down a pathway called Feng Shui. It was drawing me like a magnet – pulling me closer and closer to the mysteries of hope and peace held by an ancient Chinese civilization. Some aspects of this journey nurtured my soul, and supported my personal belief systems, while others did not. At the same time, I was beginning to feel that it was very confusing…too complicated, and too difficult to apply. I discovered there were several schools or philosophies of teaching, all of which seemed to combine to create this bewildering amount of similar yet differing information.

By this point I had expanded my creativity to incorporate fine art painting on canvas, as well as writing. As my voracious hunger for creating balance in my world grew, my artwork and writing became increasingly spiritual in nature. My Inner Spirit was being nurtured. Through this creativity, I noticed my life becoming more balanced, and that feelings of harmony were gradually taking the place of stress. Painting and writing, I realized, were giving me a very precious gift – the realization that I was very much a spiritual being. And I began to paint and write, increasingly, in a new stream of consciousness that flowed with the positive energy with which I was now surrounding myself.

While my creative side was soaring like an eagle with a freedom I’d never experienced before, my physical side was still dealing with multiple eye surgeries, the possibility of never seeing again with my injured eye, and a physical environment that most would consider lovely – but was still filled with clutter, and did not provide me supportive positive energy.

While on my personal journey, I read through thousands and thousand of pages of books and manuscripts, and listened to Feng Shui masters in person and electronically, searching for that magic bullet to make everything better.

Finally, I figured it out. What I really needed was to distill the relevant knowledge from all the information I had processed, to synthesize it down into something that was easy to understand and even easier to use.

The result of this long journey of several years? I eliminated the stress in my life, achieved balance and peace within, and am living a life where I enjoy nurturing supportive positive energy all day long…and am in control.

This book is a direct result of my journey. In some ways, it is part of my journey – or at least how I went about discovering for the first time that I could control my own life, and create my present and future through positive energy. This book brings to you, the reader, a unique perspective to achieving balance and decreasing stress in your life. It will help you enrich your life, your home, or your office, creating environments with balance, harmony, and a positive flow of energy.

As you digest the information on these pages, you will find your soul to be nurtured, as well. Feng Shui is not only about your physical environment; it’s also about your thinking, and bringing into alignment your surroundings with your life goals. That’s the true path to achieving your hopes, dreams and peace within.

While this book is designed for reading, it’s also a functional manual, to be used as a reference book to help you create a better, more productive and more abundant life.

May you realize your hopes and dreams so you can create your own piece of heaven on Planet Earth.

    Chapter 1

    Demystifying Feng Shui

I often get asked the question, What, exactly, is Feng Shui? In order to dispel any misunderstandings or myths, I often answer by telling someone what Feng Shui isn’t. It is definitely not a religion, a cult, some type of magic, or a band-aid for fixing your life. Feng Shui is a way of life that you choose - to create balance and harmony in your personal environment, so you can bring about a better and more enjoyable life.

My simple definition of Feng Shui is the use of positive energy to bring about desired results…such as better health, more income, prosperity, and abundance. Feng Shui is a 3,000-year-old life science which the ancient Chinese studied and used every day of their lives to survive and to enhance well-being, longevity and prosperity.

But you might ask, What does energy have to do with Feng Shui?

The answer is everything. The literal translation of Feng Shui is wind and water, two of the dominant energy forces on Planet Earth. Our bodies, our planet, and our solar system are all related to each other, and glued together with energy. Energy makes our world go ‘round. The energy of the sun warms us and gives us light. The energy of wind blowing over the oceans gives us cool breezes, and, when harnessed, electricity. Gravitational energy keeps us grounded, and prevents us from floating into outer space, while magnetic energy keeps us anchored.

Our world is made up of energy. There is polar energy in the north and the south. There is the east–west movement of energy as the earth rotates on its axis. There is heat energy from fire, cool energy from water, growing energy in trees and soil, and energy that results when molten metal cools and is formed into tools, equipment, and automobiles. Feng Shui energy is simply a way of harnessing some of that wonderful universe-energy, and putting it to good use in our personal lives.

We all have personal energy, as well.  When you surround yourself with positive people, good ideas, and things that please you, you feel really good about yourself because all of these positive things and people give you good energy. If you live in a dark home, and surround yourself with doom and gloom people and pessimistic thinking, you find yourself depressed, discouraged, and not feeling well because of the negative energy.
