    THE EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENT AND

    FENG SHUI

    THE EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENT AND

    FENG SHUI

In feng shui, extra care should be given to the exterior environment, as the exterior environment will affect the chi of the interior environment. The exterior environment is where cosmic chi is abundant and the positiveness of the environment will determine the quantity and quality of chi that accumulates outside the house. The quantity and quality of chi that accumulates outside the house will have an effect on the chi inside the house. When doors and windows are opened, the quantity and quality of chi accumulating outside the home will enter the house. Therefore, if the exterior environment around the house accumulates positive chi then positive chi will enter the house, conversely, if the exterior environment around the house accumulates negative chi then negative chi will enter the house. Positive chi entering the house will bring good health and good fortunes and negative chi entering the house will bring poor health and misfortunes. Moreover, the interior of the house should be manipulated and arranged to be as harmonious and positive as possible to attract and to encourage the maximum amount of positive chi from the environment to enter the house. Let’s look at how the chi from the exterior environment affects the chi of the interior environment.

    • Positive chi from the exterior environment entering an interior environment that has or is susceptible to positive chi, then the positive chi in the house are enhanced, bringing good health, strong vitality, success, and many other good fortunes to the residents.

    • Positive chi from the exterior environment entering an interior environment that has or is susceptible to negative chi, then the positive chi of the exterior environment will be suppressed, however, there will still be enough positive chi to benefit the residents of the house. It may reduce some of the resident’s success and vitality, but the resident will live comfortably.

    • Negative chi from the exterior environment entering an interior environment that has or is susceptible to negative chi, then the negative chi inside the house will exacerbate or become more negative, bringing poor health, poor vitality, setbacks, and many other misfortunes to the residents.

    • Negative chi from the exterior environment entering an interior environment that has or is susceptible to positive chi, then the negative chi of the exterior environment will dominate and pressed down the positive chi of the interior environment, causing setbacks and reducing the success and health of the resident and can even cause other misfortunes.

It is vital that the feng shui of the exterior environment be kept positive at all time because if the exterior environment is negative, then anything that are done inside the interior environment, whether positive or not, will have little or no result. A major point to remember is that the exterior environment should be as positive as possible for the house and its residents to benefit. The chi in the exterior environment is more potent and will dominate the chi of the interior environment, this is a cardinal rule in feng shui.

In general, a positive environment is where positive chi accumulate, plants and vegetations thrive, the air is fresh and clean, the water is clear, clean, and meandering, the breeze is gentle or moderate, there are no poison arrows aiming at the house, and the surrounding environment has limited or no negative factors and features. Positive and negative environment factors will be discussed thoroughly in the next chapter.

In general, a negative environment is where negative chi accumulates, plants and vegetations appear weak are dried up, the air is fetid or hard to breathe, the water is dirty and fast moving, the wind is strong or rushing, there are poison arrows aiming the house, and the surrounding environment has many or is overwhelmed by negative factors and features. Environment factors will be discuss thoroughly in the next chapter.

Auspicious landscape and positive exterior feng shui not only create harmony and balance, but also has great potential to bring opportunities for advancement, the promise of financial success, the promise of personal growth, a healthier life, a greater chances for relationship success, a greater chance of leaving a happier and more peaceful life, and much, much more. The more positive chi that accumulates in an area and its surrounding, the sooner the good fortunes will find their way to the residents who live there, conversely, the more negative chi that accumulates in an area and its surrounding, the sooner the misfortunes will find their way to the residents who lived there.

It is very important to note that chi on any land or area is limited. The chi of the land or an area needs time to replenish it chi, just like humans need to sleep and eat to replenish what is lost during their day or in short their chi. Therefore, use the land wisely and do not abuse it because when all nature chi is depleted, the land will no longer be auspicious, and the good fortunes will disappear and the misfortunes will arrive.

    ENVIRONMENTAL

    FACTORS FROM A-Z

When examining the exterior environment and landscape, consider the surrounding features such as trees, plants, land contours, land elevations, earth rays, earth energy, water features, mountains, lights, other structures and buildings, shapes, colors, quality of air, quality of water, quality of soil, vegetations, wind, sound, people, animals, and etc. These features can have a minor to major effect on the feng shui and the fortunes of the area. Let’s discuss these factors when examining the environment and the landscape.

ANIMAL: Animals in the environment can generate and emit lots of positive chi into an area. The type and conditions of the animals in an area can indicate whether the environment is auspicious or inauspicious. Healthy and friendly animals such as pigeons, birds, deer, squirrels, and domestic animals are good indicator that the area contain positive chi and is considered auspicious. Black crows, wild dogs, stray animals, dead animals, mean animals, and unhealthy animals are strong indicators that the area contains negative chi and is considered inauspicious. As a tip, when examining an area pay attention to the birds. In feng shui, birds are considered heaven messenger and they tend to reside in areas where life and chi are abundant. Birds are sensitive animals and they tend not live in an area where yin and negative chi are abundant. If there are thriving trees and plants life there will mostly likely to be friendly birds near by. If there are trees and plants and no birds living in the area, this is a bad omen. In feng shui, it is believed that heaven and earth have a unique way of warning us if something is about to happen. For example, before it rains it will first be cloudy and windy, dragonflies will fly low and ants will break up their formation to look for cover. Therefore, observe nature, and nature animals and their behaviors in your environment and look for signs or omen. It will be wise to think twice about residing in an area where birds are not present and where negative animals reside.

ASTROLOGY AND COSMOLOGY INFLUENCES: When examining the environment keep in mind the influences of astrology and cosmology. Astrology deals with fate, destiny, and the traits that make everyone unique. For instance, if you are a fire person (a fire person refers to individual that is born under the fire year), then too much water in your environment will likely to make you feel uneasy or uncomfortable. Trust your intuition if your environment makes you feel uneasy or uncomfortable in any way, because it might be telling you that your personal chi clashes or does not complement with the chi of that environment. If you experienced these uneasy feelings, it is best not to reside there, even though it might seems to have good feng shui. When examining the environment also incorporate cosmology, the time aspect of feng shui, in your analysis. Cosmology deals with time dimension and in time dimension certain areas or environments will be auspicious or inauspicious at certain time frame. In feng shui, time dimension is charted by using the flying star system. The flying star system can pin point certain areas in the environment or house that is potentially lucky or unlucky at different time. For instance, if you examine an area and find out that the people residing there are prone to illness, accidents, death, financial problems, legal problems, or other misfortunes, even though the area seems to have good shui, this might be the working of flying star. You do not have to completely avoid these areas, but you would need to know when the bad luck will end and how to remedy the misfortunes. Get a feng shui practitioner to help you calculate this. If you cannot obtain a feng shui practitioner, then I do not recommend you reside there, as misfortunes can befall on you. Astrology and cosmology influences deal with the metaphysical aspect of feng shui and they are not easily available to most people, so do not stress over this aspect, just trust your innate intuitions. If a place or environment does not feel right to you, do not reside there regardless how nice and aesthetic the environment might appears. The flying star system is a long and a different subject and will not discuss in this book, so check with a practitioner for calculation, if you need to.

COLORS: Colors can have a positive or negative affect on the environment and on the person. Different colors will attract different type of chi. The type of colors in the surrounding environment can have an influence on a person. Positive colors will attract positive chi and will have a positive effect on a person, conversely, negative colors will attract negative chi and will have a negative effect on a person. In feng shui, black, gray, and sometime purple are, in general, considered negative colors. Black color tends to make people feel gloomy and sad and it stands for depression and implies a lack of hope and a lack of life. Black color also in general has an undesirable connotation, as it is mostly worn at funerals, by executioners, crooks, criminals, and by colts. Purple colors in generally is a positive color, but sometime can be negative if it is used too much, for instance having an entire house, neighborhood, or room painted a purple color. Too much purple causes over stimulation of the crown charka, which can cause dizziness, and concentration and balance problem. Gray color stands for frustration and hopelessness. In general, positive colors are usually bright or lively colors such as red, green, orange, yellow, pink, blue, and etc. Each of these colors represents and attracts a different type of chi. For instance, red represents joy, happiness, strength, vitality and also used to expels or ward of negative chi. Green represents growth, rejuvenation, hope, spring, and expansion. Blue is soothing and represents calmness, healing, and new beginning. Pink is uplifting and represents love, happiness, and romance. Purple and violet represents nobility, power, and spiritual advancement. Yellow represents tolerance, patience, wisdom, and loyalty and is also is mentally uplifting. Beige and brown represents stability, depth, sturdiness, grounding, balance and passage of time. White contains all seven colors of the rainbow and it represents clear vision, cleanness, and purity. Orange represents happiness and power. Peach represents attraction and romance. Tan represents new possibility and success after enduring failures. Colors can have a powerful affect, their subtleness usually goes unnoticed, but in the long run, they will bring a noticeable effect.

HAZARDOUS DUSTS AND TOXINS: Environmental dust and toxins that are created by chemical and waste company are hazardous. There are no positive effects when it comes to environment toxins, only negative. Dust and toxins released into the environment and into the air contain negative and sometimes harmful chi that can cause serious respiratory or lung ailments, and other health problems. Hazardous dust and chemicals that are air borne are sometimes very difficult to detect, so take extra precaution when examining your environment. A rule a thumb, if you can see the smoke stacks from these factories, then you are too close to hazardous dust and toxins. As a caveat, if you or your family member succumbs to unusual aliments and respiratory problems that you never had before until you moved into the area, then there may be undetectable hazardous dust or toxins in your environment. It is best to avoid residing on or near these negative environments, even if the environment appears to have nice and aesthetic landscaping, as these aesthetics may be used to mask up the negative environment.

EARTH ENERGY: Earth energy is energy that is generated under the earth and then emits up to the earth’s surface and into the environment. Earth energy can have positive or negative effect on the residents in the area. In general, earth energy that is generated by underground quartz and amethyst emit positive chi and will have a positive effect on the resident’s health and fortunes. Earth energy generated by geopathic stress or underground minerals such as uranium emits negative chi and can cause minor to serious health problems. Geopathic stress is usually caused by underground water. When large amount of water rush along rocky surfaces or metal, friction is created. This friction creates radiation that is pushed upward and into the environment. These harmful energies can cause very weak vitality to degenerative and terminal disease, such as cancer. Home located over these harmful energies are to be avoided at all cost, as the strong harmful energies emitted has no effective remedy. Geopathic stress is the most common form of negative earth energy. You can check with your local government to find out if your home is located over any running canal or large city water pipe.

HARMFUL RAY AND SMOG: There are three types of harmful rays and smog in the environment that you should watch out for. They are radioactive rays, electromagnetic rays, and microwave rays. These rays emit negative and sometimes very harmful chi into the environment that will have negative affects on a person health. These harmful rays and smog have no positive affects, only negative. Of all the harmful rays, radioactive rays are the most destructive. Nuclear power plants, nuclear industries, and x-ray machines emit these harmful radioactive rays and smog. Constant exposure to these radioactive rays and smog not only cause an imbalance of chi in a person body, but can also cause cancer, leukemia, and other serious health problems. Stay away from these radioactive facilities, the further away the better because the wind can carry these contaminations to your environment. The next harmful rays and smog to watch out for are the microwaves rays and electromagnetic rays. These rays come from power lines, power line stations, and TV, radio, and mobile phone transmitting dishes and stations. Heavy exposure to microwaves and electromagnetic rays and smog can cause minor health problems such as chronic fatigue, weak joints, and mental fatigue, to serious health problems such as cancer, leukemia, and blood disorders, especially if these facilities are too close to the house or your environment. When examining the environment pay attention to where these harmful facilities and stations are located. It is best to avoid these environments and most of all avoid at all cost environments where radioactive facilities are located.

LIGHTS AND LIGHTING: Lights in the environment can have a positive or negative effect on the environment. Positive lights are auspicious and negative lights are inauspicious. In general, positive lights are yang in nature, they are bright and uplifting such as natural light, sunlight and white light. White light refers to light emitting from clear light bulbs. Of all the type of lights, sunlight is not only every uplifting and energizing, but it also emits a lot of positive chi and eliminates negative chi. Sunlight is the best light to be expose to when you need a lift. White light is also uplifting and can generate lots of positive chi and can reduce negative chi. White light is a good substitute when sunlight is not abundant. Candlelight, moonlight, and lights from fire are natural light that emits positive chi and can also be uplifting if there is enough illumination. In general, negative lights are yin in nature and they are usually dim, dark, and flicker, such as soft light and fluorescent light. Fluorescent lights not only can deplete energy but they emit radiation from both ends of the tube that can cause health risk. When examining the environment makes sure that there is enough sunlight in the area and look out for big trees or large buildings that might be blocking the sunlight. Examining the area for good lighting at night is recommended. If the environment has poor lighting in the day and at night, then the environment will likely to contain and harbor stagnant and negative chi that could affect the resident’s health, success, and fortunes. If you must live in these dim and dark environment, keep your porch light on at all time to prevent stagnant and negative chi from forming near your house and try to use clear light bulbs. Lights and lighting do have an impact on your health, vitality, fortunes, and feng shui, so do not
