About this ebook

I’m not the falling in love kind.

Actually, I’m pretty fond of my personal space, but then I go on an extended business trip, and hell if the guys haven’t put the new IT girl up in my office. I don’t care if it’s big enough for two desks, I like having the place to myself, no matter how hot she is.

The guys don’t stop there. Next job that comes up, Jade’s on duty with me, searching a client’s high-end security system for the cause of a breech.

The guy’s daughter is a pain in my much too old... rear end, but I find rescue in an unlikely ally as Jade pushes aside my surly treatment and claims me, putting a stop to the unwanted advances for now. But, the side effect of her ruse has me in her bed, if only for one night.

Major Destry is a short 10k word story. A quickie for when you don’t have much time. It features a soldier and a damsel who both need saving. There will be some trials, and there will be an HEA.

    Major Destry - Scarlett Press

Ouch, Jade yelped when Harvey's grabby fingers pinched her butt.  What are you doing?  she demanded, standing up and spinning away from the file cabinet.

He tried to smile seductively, but it only looked evil.  Just having some fun, Jade, he assured her.  I think we could have lots of fun.

I don't think so, Mr. Lipschitz, Jade snapped back, holding the file she'd been searching for tightly against her chest.  She'd been getting creepy vibes from her new boss since the day he took over the department, and she'd half-expected this to come down.  I don't have office romances, and if I did, you wouldn't be my first choice, she said firmly, sweeping past him to set the file on her desk.

Harvey, odious, obese, and offending, slid up behind Jade, touching her shoulder. Don't be like that, honey, he coaxed.  I know your husband is dead.  You must get lonely.

Jade shuddered and stepped farther away from him. Not that lonely, she responded.

He reached for a handful of her deep auburn hair, and Jade pulled away from him, grunting with disgust.

Harvey's mouth tightened, making his porcine nose appear even larger. You should be more friendly, he warned.  There's a promotion coming up soon, Jade.  I'd love to see you get the spot — as long as we're good friends. He stressed good, and Jade grimaced.

I don't think so, she replied.  I am not interested, Mr. Lipschitz.

But I am, he purred, running a stubby fingered hand up her arm.  I'd hate to lose you, Jade, but if you aren't a team player, it's difficult to keep you with us.

That's sexual harassment, Jade barked, shoving his hand away.  I'll report you, she threatened.

Harvey laughed. My record is impeccable, Ms. Mason, I assure you.  It's unlikely that your case will get anywhere.  If you be a good girl, there's a place here for you.  If you don't want to play by the rules, I suggest you pack up and get off the company premises.

Jade's green eyes sparkled angrily. Very well, Mr. Lipschitz, but you can expect to hear from my attorney.

In a storm of anger, Jade packed up the items at her desk and stormed out of the building.  Anger kept her going during the thirty minute drive to Fiji, and she slammed her car door shut when she pulled up in front of the house.  She'd find another job easily, Jade assured herself.  After all, she had a Masters in computer science, and she'd been with Long Shore for five years—since Kane's death.

    ∼∼∼

BY THE END OF THE NEXT week, Jade was regretting her hasty departure.  She didn't for one minute berate herself for not accepting Lipschitz's offer, but she was
