Collection of 89 Poems (Vol. 5) - Marissa Kline-Gonzales
IT’S NICE TO KNOW
It’s nice to know that I am home.
It’s nice to know that I belong.
It’s nice to know that I’m needed here. It’s nice to know my purpose is clear. It’s nice to know that I’ve been missed. It’s nice to know I will get kissed.
It’s nice to know that I am loved.
It’s nice to know I will get hugged.
It’s nice to know they want me near.
It’s nice to know they’ll come and cheer.
It’s nice to know they want me back. It’s nice to know it’s me they lack.
PLAYDATES
Playdates can be a lot of fun--
They don’t need mommy for a little while.
They play together with their friends, With toys and trucks and dolls and things.
But it can get pretty chaotic,
Especially when one makes us panic. Fighting over one toy. Oh boy!
Saying, I’m not your friend anymore!
Ouching here and crying there,
It can be hard to relax and to bear. Someone falling and dropping toys;
My nerves are shot and patience gone. Playdates are supposed to be good,
To chit-chat with a friend and feel unperturbed.
I’m thinking twice about that now--
With all this noise, it’s hard to be calm. The toys are scattered everywhere! Looks like tornados have landed there. It may take two weeks to clean this up. My, oh my! This is a lot! When we tell them to clean up now,
They act like they’ve never heard of that.
They start to run around and play tag. Guess who is cleaning up their stuff? Playdates are double the trouble--
Double the children and all the work.
AIRLINE TERMS
Mile High Club is not for me;
Why would you even dare to be?
Screw driver, is not a screw--
Vodka and orange juice, nothing new.
Flight Deck up here, that’s what it’s called;
Not a Cockpit anymore.
They used to call us Stewardesses
But Flight Attendant is the best.
An air pocket can be loud,
Annoying too, but it does not last. Doing Deadhead can be fun;
We can sleep on a flight.
FO and CA, what is that?
First Officer and Capitan.
Jetway bridge is important
To enter in the terminal.
Ground stop is nothing new.
Everyone hates it--you will too.
Circling is a holding pattern.
Why are you late? Because of them.
Final approach--we all love that—
That means we are about to land.
Being on Reserve is a dread;
All crews hate to be called in bed.
If you hear the word low ceiling
You may be stranded until evening. ETA or ETD means
Time of arrival and departing.
Galley is not what you think;
That’s where we put all food and drinks. PSU--to some it’s new--
That is where the reading lights go.
Tailwind is a very good thing;
You may feel the plane speeding.
FAA can be strict and cruel
But they make sure we follow the rules.
A young traveler flying alone--Unaccompanied Minor they are called. RON--remain overnight;
That means some planes cannot fly out.
HarmonEE
Sometimes I really don’t see
Why people disagree.
We look alike in many degree
So we should all be happy.
We humans have the same glee.
We have the same knee,
And we all want to be free
But something makes us turn beastly.
We end up arguing about wee
problems that turn to World War Three.
That makes others want to flee
Because we are driving them crazy.
Little things bother us, like a bee,
As if we were hit by a falling tree.
We quickly get into an offended spree-We get angry so easily.
Instead, let our hate be an escapee.
Let grace be an appointee,
Forgiveness an abductee.
Our love should be as big as the sea.
Oh, what a world that would be
If we could all sightsee!
We would all be a total grantee
Of peace and harmony.
IF I HAD TEN DAYS TO LIVE
If I had only ten days to live
How would I use my precious time?
If I died ten short days from now,
Those days I would make worthwhile.
Cost wouldn’t matter, that’s for sure—
I would freely spend what I have. Distance and miles would be short
For now I don’t have much of that.
Hours and days would feel like seconds For I know my life would soon end. Time I would use very wisely.
To waste ten days would be a shame.
I’d laugh
