I
consider myself fortunate enough to have been blessed with people who stand by me in everything I do and also provide me with honest reviews and constructive feedback if need be. While I have always been indebted to them more than they will ever know, I take this opportunity to acknowledge their efforts.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to His Holiness, Sri Sri Ravishankarji (Guruji), my Guru, for the impeccable knowledge He has imparted to me. He is definitely a living legend in its purest sense and has influenced my thoughts and life in ways that are inexplicable.
I would like to thank my parents for backing me & my in-laws for always being supportive. The world only knows about the bold decisions I have made so far. They had closely seen me trudging through the thick and thin. I could trust myself and my decisions because of them.
I would also like to thank my wife, Aabha, without whom this book would have failed to be this book. Right from helping me analyze the early drafts to encouraging me and suggesting to me the final cover page, she has been an ideal support system.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Umesh Soman, my mentor, for helping and guiding me at all times. He has always been my go-to person.
I would like to add special thanks to my co-author Rutuja Gaidhani, for being there with amazing content writing and research skills. With an openness to learn and experiment, she was all there in the journey of the creation of this book.
I would, further, like to extend my gratitude to Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai, Atul Rajoli, Kshitija Gupte, Dr. Gaurav Gupte and my best friends Rohan Dhabade and Sneha Dhabade, Vedant Sakhalkar, Dr. Monali Chopade, Heramb Sathye, Mandar Sathye, Chinmay Zare, Pranav Shauche, Anagha Modak, Anant Bapat and Vaibhavi Deshmukh who have always been around to boost my morale.
Thank you, all my friends, family, all my teachers and well-wishers, for being there!
NOTES
• This book is for everyone who wishes to change their lives for good and taste success. Though touching upon a very challenging topic, the writing style of the book has been simplified for encouraging readers who had always thought of goal-setting as an overwhelming process.
• It is a culmination of lessons from various research papers and the books I have read so far. Some topics have come to my knowledge by analyzing and re-analyzing the wide-ranging seminars that I have been a part of in the span of my experience. Hence, they being an amalgamation of many sources, mentioning any one particular source for such concepts has been avoided. However, I do acknowledge the creators of the original versions of all of those notions.
• This book encourages practical application of the mentioned theories and hacks. It aims at inspiring readers to make a move rather than being passive readers. Tasks have been assigned after every chapter which the goal-setter is expected to solve before reading on. Space for answers has also been provided. In case of any suggestions, doubts or explanations, just write to setlife.rohitbagaitkar@gmail.com.
• Everyone is a learner and learning never stops. Apply the principles in the book to achieve success and then propagate the principles based on your successful experience. I write this book emphasizing all that I have learned and everything that I have achieved.
It is your time to draw maximum benefit from this book.
INTRODUCTION
‘If you really know what you want out of life, it’s amazing how opportunities will come to enable you to carry them out.’
— John Goddard
John Goddard, a world-renowned adventurer, explorer, lecturer and author, was fifteen when he created a unique ‘Life List,’ comprising 120+ goals he wished to achieve in his lifetime.
As a Goal-Achiever, I feel proud to say that the results of this ‘Life List’ have been incredible.
As an author, I believe that every author wishes to create an atmosphere wherein readers along with absorbing what they are reading, feel motivated to apply the principles right away. This book is a value-addition project aiming to change the way people have been looking at their lives and themselves. Recognizing that we are made for constant improvement, working on our goal and achieving it amidst potential distractions will help us benefit from our informed choices. The hunger to become successful is the motive for sincere self-encouragement, improving the way we approach our options.
Having been shaped by practical knowledge of over a decade of working with people from different, sometimes even contrasting, backgrounds, the book represents my current understanding of goal-setting. Nevertheless, I trace the origin of my interest in this field back to the year 2010 when my life was yet to achieve its purpose. Every word in the book has a long-lasting bond with my personal life. Hence, the techniques presented in here have been experimented with by me on my own self and numerous others, ranging right from different fields to varying age groups.
However, Rutuja and I happened to meet only recently through a much-cherished accident. There was never a dull moment haunting our discussions. We spent hours of solid deliberations that were just as amusing as the entire process. Perhaps, it is much more comfortable and enjoyable to complete such a long journey when you are never bored. We got used to the fact that these critical discussions had turned into fun conversations in no time. Both Rutuja and I had made it
