    KISS WordPress

    Quick Start Notebook

    Introduction

Yeah, that’s right, KISS WordPress. Keeping it simple, stupid. That’s what this is about.

When I started, I was so dumb I thought WordPress was two words.

I don’t know all that much yet, but as long as I know more than you, I can help you learn.

About this Notebook, I find reading it with the pages in tandem, instead of one at a time is helpful. There are many illustrations and it’s hard to tie them in with the accompanying text on the same page.

I’m big on self education. I will read all I can find about a subject. I spent months doing that. I tried creating a site that I could be proud of having my name attached to it. There has been some bitter frustration. Quitting is not in my nature.

In my distant past, I have used website creating programs such as Dream Weaver and Front Page. They were labor intensive and forced you to learn at least some code. That’s not for me anymore. That’s not how I make my living. In my business life, I measure a lot of different values. One thing I always quantify is what is my highest dollar return for my time spent. I must use my time doing the highest dollar value tasks.

I was in the real estate business for over 30 years. I used to teach my agents that we have two kinds of work in this business. We have $25 an hour work and $250 an hour work. It’s up to you to decide which to spend your time doing.

I found the opposite is also true with my expenses. How can I reduce them? I wanted lower cost solutions, sometimes these metrics come into conflict.

Web presence is one of those areas of conflict. Do I pay a professional company to build my author website? You bet I do. I put my time to better use writing. That’s what I now do. Did I like what they did for me? I did, but. . . . Here’s the deal. Even though I found them to be excellent, the words I used to express exactly what I wanted from them were not the words they heard from me. Whose fault? I expect the flaw is in just being human. There was a time when I thought communicating thoughtfully with others was important. Later I felt communicating accurately was the way to go. Even later I found that communicating effectively is what works best. I wasn’t communicating effectively in
