    Impact of Vaastu on Nations - Vaastuguru Kuldeep Saluja

    -Author

    Significance of Knowledge of

    Direction in Vaastu

    Knowledge of directions is very significant in Vaastu. One can have better knowledge about the Vaastu of a place and construction can be carried out as per Vaastu principles only with proper knowledge of directions.

    Magnetic Compass is used to determine directions generally. There are some traditional ways to determine directions without compass also.

    In the morning, if we face the rising sun then East direction is in the front, South direction is on the right, West direction is on the back and North direction is on the left hand.

    Place a stick on the ground, in the morning when the sun is shining and mark the top of the shadow of the stick on the ground. Repeat the process of marking top of the shadow of stick after half an hour. Now draw a line in between these two marks. This line indicates direction from East to West. Please keep in mind that the first mark is in West direction and second one is in East.

    We can determine direction in the evening with the help of moon. Shining part of the moon is always in West direction, if it rises before sun set. The shining part of the moon is in East direction if it rises after mid night.

    Twinkling stars in the night sky can also provide directions. We can recognize Dhruv star with the help of Saptrishi Tara Mandal. Dhruv star is always in the North direction.

    Magnetic Compass was first used by ships in the sea while they sailed. It is the most accurate and simplest way to determine directions.

    Earth also behaves like a big magnet. There is a small leaf on a pivot in the magnetic compass. One end of the leaf is marked by a red spot. The circular compass is divided from 0 to 360 degrees. The red spot of this magnetic leaf always indicates the North direction because North Pole of the earth is stable. When we North direction all other directions can be identified on the basis of marks in the compass. Hence no calculation is required to determine directions.

    Following English alphabets are used to indicate directions in compass.

    There are certain precautions to be observed, while using Magnetic Compass;

    Keep the magnetic compass at the center of the plot or building and wait till it stops moving. Now, move compass in such a way that the red spot coincides with the North Direction in the compass. Now you can read all the directions.

    There should not be magnet or magnetic field nearby the compass.

    The magnetic compass malfunctions sometimes due to excessive use of steel in the construction of buildings these days, which creates a magnetic field. Hence in such cases the directions should be determined by taking three four readings at different places.

    The north direction in such cases should be determined where most of the time the leaf indicates.

    What Direction Does Your House Face?

    It has been observed that many times people are not certain what direction does their house faces, while discussing their vaastu.

    To decide the direction that your house faces, just stand at the main entrance of your house and face the road. Now whatever direction you face is the direction of your house.

    For example if the Sun rises from the direction of the road of your main entrance then your house face East Direction. Then you have South to your right side, North to left and west to back.

    Opposite is true and your house faces West, if the Sun rises from the back side of your house.

    Directions and angles as per vaastu

    A Plot with Directions in Corners is called Vidisha Plot

    Four Directions

    Four Angles

    Division of Plot

    Division of Plot Into Eight Parts As Per Vaastu

    Division of Vidisha Plot Into Eight Parts As Per Vaastu

    Center is termed asBrahmain Vaastu Shaastra.

    Division of Angle

    Nine Planets Influencing Eight Directions

    Vaastu Principles proclaim that nine Planets of our Solar System influence any plot or building. Every direction has been assigned with a Planet as below;

    God and Planets of Directions

    Nine Planets, Eight Directions and their

    Areas of Influence

    Division of Vaastu as per Fengshui

    Main entrance can be anywhere in this Direction

    As per miracle based Pa-Kua system of Fengshui, any plot/building/room is divided into eight parts and the direction of main entrance is called north direction.

    Significance of Lower Surface in Vaastu

    You will come across sentences like; low north direction yields fame and low east direction yields grandeur in this book. Please bear in mind that low north and west directions also yield grandeur but it is significantly less than that from low east direction. Low north direction increases fame and low west direction increases religious sentiments. Below is a summary of the influence of lower surface of all the directions;

    Vaastu defects should be eradicated scientifically as Vaastushaatra is a branch of science. All kind of enchantments, spells, Pujaa-Paath, Yantra-mantra-tantra, Pyramid, Shri Yantra, burying something or keeping something is all in vain while there is Vaastu defect. People turn up in scarce number in a temple with Vaastu defects, and offer scanty offerings, though God himself is present there.

    Vaastu defects can only be eradicated by making changes as per Vaastu principles to the construction. These changes yield almost 100% results. Any other way to overcome Vaastu defect is sheer waste of money.

    Famous Religious Places

    Sai Baba Temple, Shirdi

    There are many places of worship around the world but few attract devotees in large numbers. For example there are umpteen numbers of temples of Devi Maa throughout the country but Shri Vaishno Devi temple at Katra near Jammu attracts devotees in large number not only from India but from every corner of the world. Similarly there are many temples of Lord Ganesha in the country but Siddhi Vinayak Ganesha temple at Mumbai has a special attraction for devotees. There are many Gurudwaras of Sikhs world over but Golden temple at Amritsar has a distinguished place among them all. All these religious places attract devotees round the year in large numbers. Devotees ask for votive in these places of worship and then present votive offerings there in huge quantities. On the other hand there are many places of worship where devotees and offerings are scanty in numbers. It therefore gives rise to a question naturally as why is it like that?

    It can only be explained by the fact that all such worship places where devotees visit in large numbers have geographical advantage in addition to construction as per Vaastu principles. If we analyse the geographical situation and construction of these places we find that most of the Vaastu principles are followed up. This construction as per Vaastu produces positive vibes, which in turn attract devotees. This is also behind the accomplished votives of the devotees who in turn offer votive offerings in huge quantities. Opposite to this if any place of worship is not situated on proper place as per Vaastu and has not been constructed as per Vaastu principles is filled with negative vibes, which prevent devotees to visit there.

    Abode of Sai Baba of Shirdi, now known as Shridi Sai Temple, has been famous form the days of Sai Baba. There are more than 3000 big Sai temples all over the country today and more than 200 temples abroad. There are countless small ones scattered in the country.

    It is said that Sai Baba era lasted in between 1838 to 1918. Nobody knows about his name, birth date and birth place. He came to this place at the age of 16. He lived as Fakir and treated everybody evenly. Faith and patience were main principles of his philosophy. People from all religions, Hindus and Muslims together would visit him. He lived in a mosque and his mausoleum was made in a temple after his death, which became Sai Temple.

    Sai Baba lived for 80 years (1838 to 1918). No authentic information is available for his Name, Birth Place & Date of Birth. He came here at the age of 16. He would treat everybody equally and lived like a fakir. Faith & Patience was his philosophy. His following was above the religious barriers and people from all the faiths, Hindus and Muslims together were his devotees. A mosque was his abode and his mausoleum was made in a temple after his demise, where thousands of devotees visit every day and pay their reverences.

    The fame of temple at Shirdi can be attributed to the Vaastu suitable geography and construction. A hut was constructed almost 150 years before and its situation and construction both were as per Vaastu principles. The Vaastu has been maintained till date. However all the new construction has been done indiscriminately without paying much attention to its Vaastu but inadvertently the construction has been as per Vaastu principles so far.

    Sai Baba would sit with his Dhuni and distribute Prasad to visitors at Dwarka Mai. This Prasad would benefit people. This Dwarka Mai and his present mausoleum temple are near each other. These both the places are to the south direction of present temple. This place is on higher side and has a road outside the premises. Across the road there are many shops selling literature, prasad and photos of Sai Baba. The temple premise has doors in all the four directions but its main entrance is at North direction. The devotees have to cross many big rooms to pay visit to Mausoleum temple. The north direction of the land is quite low as compared to south direction. There is Landy Garden in the west direction of the temple. It has a road going to Manmad and many hotels & shops across the road. The land in the west direction is even and has a slope towards East direction. This has made West direction of temple higher than its East direction.

    A road and bazaar in the South direction of the temple outside its premises have even surface and North direction has slopes inside and outside the temple premises. The place where Laddoo Prasad is distributed in North direction is very low and after this it is even. There is a Nullah in North direction near to this place. This Nullah has created a natural low area in North direction and Vaastu suitable. There are toilets and their tanks in the North direction in the temple premises. As per Vaastu Principles any place with low North & East directions & water and high West direction is always stable. Such a place produces financial gains too. Some good examples of such Vaastu are Tirupati Balaji, Shri Rangnath Swami Temple & Shri Rangpattam etc. All these Vaastu suitabilities have yielded in the fame of Sai Baba temple and it will remain so.

    The construction work being carried out in the temple is also as per Vaastu. Main temple is in the South Direction of premises. Idol of Sai Baba is placed on a platform in the West Direction in temple. The mausoleum is in East Direction of the hall, which is lower. People pay their reverence from here. Main entrance of the temple is in North Direction, which is as per Vaastu Principles. Door of Dwarika Mai is in South-East, which is also as per Vaastu Principles.

    There is an old well in West Direction of the mausoleum temple. An underground water source in the West direction increases faith among the worshippers.

    Higher East Direction and slope in West Direction in any place is termed inauspicious, as per Indian Vaastu Principles. But it is my observation that some religiously famous places of any religion, have many geographical things in common. There is slope in West Direction and South Direction is always higher than the North Direction in such places. Vaishno Devi temple, Pashupati Nath temple, Mandsaur etc depict very good examples of this observation. People living in a house with underground water source like tube well, well etc, are known to possess more religious fervor than others. The famous Rameshwaram temple has 22 wells and almost all of them are in the North Direction, some of them are in North-east direction and there is a big pond in West direction but none in South Direction. All the wells in North & North-East direction add to the fame of this temple and big pond in the West direction is responsible for reverence among the worshippers.

    It is due these Vaastu suitable constructions that the mausoleum temple of Sai Baba is famous all over the world and will remain so forever.

    Front Sight and Sai Shankaracharya Dispute

    East of South-east of main hall of Sai Baba mausoleum temple is slightly extended. As per Vaastu Principlas extension and/or lowness, T Junction & door in east of south-east direction can cause all kind of disputes in any place. So the extended east of south-east direction of main hall of temple is root cause of disputes among the trustees of the managing committee. There was door in the extended part of hall, which used to remain closed but few month back it was opened to make FRONT SIGHT of Sai Baba for devotees. This has added to the effect of the extended east of south east direction and has caused the statement by Shankaracharya that Sai Baba was not God and he should not be treated like one. This has caused a serious debate in the country.

    Vaastu Advice -The door in extended east of south east direction should be removed and extension should also be removed by constructing a wall, if the temple management wants to stop such types of dispute in future.

    Tirupati Balaji, Tirumala

    Internationally renowned temple of Shri Venkatachalpati at Tirumala is situated at a height of 2500 feet above the MSL on Sheshanchal Mountain. Mountain ranges surround the temple from all sides exept its Northeast direction. The mountain ranges are very high in its west and south direction, while they are a few kilometers away from temple in the east and north directions. The idol of God Tirupati Balaji is facing east direction in the temple. People from all over the world visit this temple for their desires to be fulfilled and pay their offerings after achieving the same. People queue up here in massive numbers to pay their reverence to the God. We can imagine the number of devotees by the fact that one has to wait for years to perform a special Pooja in this temple. The opulence of the temple is obvious as it stands at number two among the most prosperous religious places in the world. This international fame and opulence of Tirupati Balaji temple can be attributed to its excellent Vaastu. Moreover effect of Vaastu suitable construction of the Temple is augmented by its geographical situation, which is also Vaastu suitable. Such a condition is really rare. The details of this Vaatu suitability are as follows;

    Temple of Tirupati Balaji is situated at Southern end of Andhra Pradesh. South-West part of any city or state is always grand.

    If we approach Tirumala from Tirupati by road there is an upward slope of the hill up to GMC toll and Tirumala starts from here. A down ward slope starts from this toll barrier in the North direction, which extends up to a hill in the distance in North and East direction. There is a free bus ferry stand after the toll barrier before the temple premises start. Then there is Kalyan Kaat (Tonsure Hall), here devotees offer their hair to the Lord .The downward slope in the hill continues here in the North & east direction. This road continues post temple premises and turns towards TTB car parking with a deep slope.

    Temple has been built on a plain surface in the South & West direction of hill. Dining Hall, Bank Street and other buildings of premises are in the South direction, which is high. One has to climb stairs to reach here. There is a slope in the East & North directions. Swami Pushkarni is a Pond made for bathing by the devotees in North-East direction of the temple. North direction of temple also has slope. Three kilometers from here is a water fall namely Aakash Ganga.Water from this fall is used for daily Puja in the temple. Then there is Baikunth Tirth, in the North East direction three kilometers away and Papanasham water fall in North direction from temple. All these Vaastu suitable structures inside temple premises and outside add to its fame and glory.

    Any place, city or building gets fame if its South direction is high and North direction is lower, as per Vaastu principles. For example Pink city portion of jaipur has a slope from South to North direction, Gurgaon too has slope from South to North direction. River Yamuna flows in the North direction of Tajmahal. Vaastu suitability of North direction has been main reason behind the fame of Har Ki Paudhi, in Haridwar.

    There are two T Junctions, which add to the fame of Tirumala, in addition to its geographical situation. One of them is in South direction on GMC toll gate, which hits the South of South East direction on the boiler house and turns in East direction. Another one is on the road with, bank street & dining hall and also hits South of South East direction of the temple premises.

    There are two more T junctions, in addition to these two of South of South East direction. One hits East of South East direction to Aasthan Mandapam, where there is Naariyal Humdi at the end of temple. This part is on a height due to geographical situation. That’s why one has to descend a stair case while going in the temple premises from Naariyal Hundi. The slope of hill is so steep after this that road in front of Ram Bagichaa guest house is in the level of temple premises and one doesn’t have to descend here to enter temple premises.

    The road in the east direction of temple, coming from GMC toll gate turns in East of the North East direction with a slope. It has temple to its West and Ram Bagichaa guest house, bus stand & shopping complex in East on the slope. This slope goes too far in the east direction where multi storied flats for employees have been built and then there are hills in distance. On the other side the hill starts just near the temple in its West direction.

    Height in West direction and slope in East direction in any place brings opulence as per Vaastu principles. The opulence & grandeur of Tirupati Balaji temple can be attributed to its Vaastu suitable geographical situation in East and West direction. The T Junction in east of the North East direction at Ram Baagichaa guest house is adding to its effect further.

    Vaastu principles have been over looked in some of the constructions carried out to regulate high number of devotees coming to offer visit to the temple in recent years. These constructions have created some Vaastu defects in temple viz all the four corners of backyard of temple have been covered, Jhula mandap in south direction and double story room in north east direction. T Junction in east of the south east direction at Nariyal Hundi is also against Vaastu. Such T junctions in east of south east direction, can cause bickering and disputes, which are very common there.

    The south west angle of temple premises is extended with its south direction. It is near Baikunth Queue complex. This is also a significant Vaastu defect. Vaastu defect in south direction affects ladies specially, as per Vaastu principles. Definitely this Vaastu defect is inauspicious to all the ladies paying visit to temple but it is nullified by the wonderful and unique Vaastu suitability of the temple. This can be explained by a simple example of a glass full of water with sugar. If we add a pinch of salt to it, there will be no effect to its sweet taste but when consumed the water will have inherent effect of salt on the body.

    Vaastu Advice: The Tirumala-Tirupati Devsthanam board should get rid of these Vaastu defects and take precaution not to add any additional defects while carrying out new constructions, which could affect its Vaastu suitability and in turn fame and grandeur.

    Shrinath Ji, Nathadwara

    A unique Vaishanv tirth, Nathdwara is situated on Udaipur-Ajmer road approximately 50 kilometer from Uadaipur. The word Nathdwara means, door to Shrinathji ie Lord Krishna. The black stone idol of Shrinatheji was installed here in 1669. This vaishnav temple is among some very rich and famous temples like, Sai Baba Temple at Shirdi, Balaji Temple at Tirupati & Siddhi Vinayak Temple at Mumbai. Devotees from all over the world visit this temple with extravagant reverence. Especially a very large number gathers here to celebrate Janmashtami, Holi & Deepawali. This place is unique as the temple of Shrinathji and Nathdwara both are equally famous. This is in tandem with the fame of Tirupati with Balaji & Shirdi with Sai Baba. If somebody says that they are going to Nathdwara it is understood that they will visit Shrinathji Temple.

    It’s really strange how a temple in narrow streets of Nathdwara attracts devotees from far off places and they have great faith & reverence for Shrinathji.

    This all can be attributed to Vaastu. There are many temples of Shrinathji world over and in almost all the major Indian cities but Shrinathji temple at nathdwara attracts unmatched number of devotees. What is the reason behind it? This unique phenomenon can only be explained by the geographical situation and Vaastu suitable constructions in the temple. That’s why people not only pay reverence here but also ask for votive and then offer votive offerings when the same is fulfilled.

    Lets analyse the Vaastu suitability of both Nathdwara & Shrinatheji temple;

    There is a steep slope in North direction of Nathdwara, which starts from the beginningand extends up to river Banas cross the city.

    The Banas river, which flows in North direction of Nathdwara is the biggest river in Rajasthan state. It flows 480 Km from West to East direction. Madurai city in South India also has same geographical situation where river waige flows west to east direction in the north of Madurai. This city also has famous Minakshi temple.

    The whole town of Nathdwara has higher West & South direction while its North & East directions have slope.

    Temple of Shrinathji is situated in the South west angle of the town. The West & Sotuh directions of temple premises are also high and there is steep slope from West to East direction & South to North direction. That’s why all the rooms are built there as steps. Same Vaastu suitability has been found in Tirupati Balaji & Shirdi Sai Baba temples too. There is Pushkarni pond in North East angle of Tirupati balaji temple and South, West direction & South west angle are high. The North, East directions & North east angle are lowly. There is a difference here that in Shrinathji temple the West direction is high while there is a hill in the West direction of Tirupati Balaji temple. The Pushkarni pond is in the North east angle in Tirupati Balaji temple premises while a big Sinhaad pond is situtated in North east angle out of its premises of Shrinathji temple. There is a small Vishwkarma temple in this pond.
