There's more to water than we ever know.

As much as I have heard things about water fasting I still feel fascinated whenever I read an article that mainly discusses about it.
We already knew about the 8-10 "supposed" to be glass of water intake everyday; but this approach is something new yet something easy to be discussed about. Elizabeth Moore, back with her health books, ignited the talk of the town in her usual scientifically-proven books. The thing with this book is that it is more encouraging to live a healthy life with plenty of water rather than just educating people about the beneficial advantages with lots of intakes of it. The fine fact here is that this method is also related to Autophagy which is a very good health diet too and Weight loss which many have been wanting to do so

Introduction

You’ve heard a lot about water fasting nowadays. It seems like the latest weight loss fad that has caught on in a big way. Let me tell you straight up here—it is here to stay because it has tons of benefits if done correctly. There are plenty of misconceptions and myths regarding water fasting that we will burst along the way. However, it is here to stay, which is why you must know its benefits and how to use it correctly. Let us first understand the concept of water fasting.

What is water fasting all about?

Fasting is a form of restricting intake of food, which has been practiced since ancient times for several purposes including religion. Water fasting is a kind of fasting that limits a person from eating everything but water. It has risen in popularity as a new-age weight loss method, though it has been in existence for thousands of years.

Today, even if you don’t consume anything for about 8-12 hours, it is considered fasting. Technically, aren’t we all already fasting even though we don’t even realize it? A majority of us fast from night until morning when we break our fast. This is exactly why our first meal of the day is called breakfast. Other creatures are always fasting when they get sick. Human beings are probably the only life forms who eat while they are sick despite our bodies signaling us to do otherwise. Therefore, fasting is a normal and integral part of our dietary patterns—it isn’t something new. Since primitive times and throughout evolution, our bodies are wired for fasting. Contrary to popular perception, fasting isn’t unhealthy or risky if done correctly. It has tons of health benefits.

During the period of water fasting, an individual doesn’t consume any other food or drinks. The intake is solely restricted to water, which is believed to facilitate weight loss and good health. Studies have also pointed to the fact that although occasional fasting can benefit short-term weight loss goals, other methods may be more effective in the long run. To ensure you obtain optimal results from your water fasting, prepare well and pick a good time for going without food. Select a time when your body doesn’t need a lot of energy if you plan to do water fasting.

There has been plenty of buzz surrounding water fasting as a means of quick weight loss and building a healthy body. It has plenty of benefits—there’s no denying that. However, there are also risks attached to it, which we will discuss in detail in the subsequent chapters. Water fasting is believed to reduce the risk of chronic diseases and may trigger autophagy, a physiological process that helps the body break down and recycle old and worn-out parts of your body cells. Though traditionally used for religious purposes, today, water fasting is popular as a natural health and wellness ritual with meditation.

Though there haven’t been extensive studies and research on water fasting, it may not be suitable for all. Read everything about the risks attached to it and consult an experienced and qualified medical practitioner before opting for water fasting.

Water fasts have been around for several centuries, though they were practiced using different methods for varying durations (generally 5 to 40 days). The popularity of water fasts has also created several spin-offs on the traditional fasting method. Over the past few years, there have been plenty of offshoots of the original fast—where liquids form the basis of meal plans. Several of these fastings have offered positive results with a decrease in blood pressure.

Though on the face of it, water fasting sounds tough, it can be easier than some other fasting types such as juice or broth fasting. The results can also be much more effective—depending on how and when you do it. Although some people consume black coffee and zero-calorie drinks, these don’t qualify for a water fasting. Water fasting is nothing but water.

Water fasting is when you cannot consume anything other than water. A majority of water fasts go on for 24 to 72 hours. Anything longer than this requires medical supervision because it can be dangerous. Some of the most common reasons for water fasting are religious or spiritual purposes, weight loss, detox, health benefits, and getting ready for a medical procedure. Research has connected water fasting with startling health benefits, which is why people are attracted to it. Water fasting is known to lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and several forms of cancer. It also facilitates autophagy, as discussed earlier, which helps dangerous and high-risk worn-out cells to be replaced by newer and healthier cells.

Water fasting led to the invention of several other popular diets that were different versions of it—think about the lemon detox method. This version of water fasting allows the person to consume a mixture of cayenne pepper, lemon juice, maple syrup, and water frequently during the day for up to a week.

If you consider the historical perspective, almost every religion suggests some form of fasting—and our ancestors were surprisingly aware of its health benefits, though it may not have been scientifically proven by them. Owing to scarcity, war, famine, floods, and other challenging conditions, people have fasted by default throughout history when they didn’t have access to food or during long journeys.

Though today, the thought of going without food seems ridiculous to some people, our ancestors would’ve probably laughed at the idea of consuming 5-6 meals a day. The 5-6 meals a day concept was totally unheard of before modern times. Therefore, fasting patterns and meal plans evolve a period of time according to the circumstances and conditions prevalent in the era. Though fasting seems ridiculous today, it was once a healthy way of life for erstwhile folks. Now, that people are slowly discovering its benefits—it has made a comeback in a big way.

According to studies that’ll amaze you, average Americans do not eat 4-6 meals a day. That’s a much conservative figure. The real figure is somewhere near 17-18 times per day. Yes, rub your eyes and read that again. It is 17-18 times a day! You don’t think that is possible?

Well, each time you put something that has calories in your mouth, you are creating a digestive event. Even a fistful of nuts, a smoothie sip between meals, or coffee at the end of the day is causing the activation of your body’s digestive processes. In short, we end up eating more, moving less, getting less natural sunlight, and exposing ourselves to more artificial light.

We know by now that water fasting leads to autophagy within our bodies. It is nothing but a process of self-eating. Primarily, during autophagy, our body recycles old cells to be replaced by newer and healthier cells. A recent research offers a fitting scientific explanation of autophagy. According to it, autophagy plays a housekeeping role in getting rid of the body’s collected proteins, while clearing damaged organelles like endoplasmic reticulum, peroxisomes, and mitochondria. It also eliminates intracellular pathogens. Thus, autophagy is seen as a mechanism of survival.

There have also been studies suggesting that fasting can enhance our digestive health, allowing good bacteria to thrive, which results in an overall increase in the body’s metabolic rate, weight reduction,
