    HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD

    In The Midst of Grief

    Dedication

I dedicate this book to the most amazing woman I have ever known; my mom Michele Vie DuPree. I am honored that God loved me so much that He gave me you as a mother. May every seed that you sowed in my life bear much fruit and may God be glorified by the life that I live.

    Introduction

March 26, 2015 will forever be branded in my mind. What began as a busy day as I prepared to have a few days off of work for a women’s conference, quickly changed into a life altering moment. Just forty-five minutes after getting off work my mom and I were at home changing our clothes so that we could quickly drive to the conference, she began complaining of a headache. We brushed it off as no big deal, but then the headache started to get severe.

Now, everything that I’m about to tell you happened in a matter of twenty minutes. From the moment her head started hurting to becoming severe, it had only been five minutes. I quickly prayed for her and said, Ok let’s get ready to go. However, the headache would not go away so I gave her some medicine to help. I had her sit down and said to her, Why don’t you lay down and maybe close your eyes for a moment? My thought is that it would give the medicine some time to begin working. She sat on the bed and as she went to lay down it seemed as though the headache was getting even worse. I asked her if she wanted to go to the hospital.

She first said no and I asked her if she was sure, at which point she said, maybe I should. As I was calling 911 she began to get very dizzy and nauseous.

About five minutes later the ambulance arrived and my mom began to slip in and out of consciousness. They swiftly put her on a stretcher and as they were taking her out of the house I distinctly remember her arm slipping off the stretcher. She was rushed to the hospital, but by the time they arrived she was unresponsive and in a coma. She was suffering from an aneurysm.

Less than 24 hours later, I was informed that due to the massive bleeding she was experiencing on her brain, she was brain dead. My mother never come out of the coma. I had to make the decision to take her off of life support. This was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make in my thirty three years of life. How does one remain brave when faced with the decision to let go of the very one who brought them into the world, raised them, and sacrificed everything in order to demonstrate a lifestyle of holiness before her? As an only child of a single mom I was about to begin a new level of trust in God that I could have never imagined. This book will provide you a ticket on my journey with God. It all started two weeks after my mom passed and even now years later the journey continues on.

    CHAPTER 1

    Title Change

Before you start reading this chapter, I want to warn you that IT WILL CHALLENGE YOUR THINKING and rip the band-aid off of the pain you’re feeling! So, if you aren’t ready to start healing from the losses you have experienced, close this book and come back at a later date. It’s ok, no one will judge you, we all handle grief differently. Ok, if you are still reading, you have been warned!

While driving on my way home just two weeks after my mother passed—broken over her being gone—the Lord began to speak to me. If a human were to have said what The Lord said to me, I would have been deeply offended. He told me that
