Candy is heartbroken. She wipes the tears from her eyes and tries to see through the rain-covered windshield of her little Plymouth Duster. It’s a wedding present from her father-in-law… but will he be her father-in-law after tonight? She wonders.

She bites her lip, Come on, clear, clear. But the little car’s windshield stays as foggy as ever. And just where is she, anyway? 

Candy leans forward and wipes the fog from the inside of the windshield. That’s better. She can see a little, enough to know that she’s drive into downtown Hollywood… approaching the corner of Highland and Franklyn, one block away from Hollywood Blvd, where old homes and crazy shops look spooky in the mist and rain.

But why is she here?

Oh, yes, the fight with Danny, the second big fight of their short marriage, and Candy ended up running from the house, down the stairs to the underground garage. She struggled into their car and then pulled slowly away, hoping Danny would come running after her. He didn’t, so she just rode out into the street and on toward Hollywood.

It was such a stupid fight too; she thought. Danny was spray-painting a desk in their new apartment. And when the paint spray looked like it would settle all over the carpet and the furniture, she told Danny to be careful, that’s all. But he got defensive, and she had said, Well, my father knew how to spray paint furniture without changing the color of the entire room. and that made Danny even more defensive.
