    About the Author

    Introduction

Debt and excessive borrowing are major problems in our homes, cities and nations today. Only a few months ago, CNBC News reported that world debt was close to $253 trillion. To put it into context, that figure is more than three times the size of the entire global economy. That means all the Countries of the world owe three times as much as they produce annually.

It’s similar to owing your credit card company £100,000 when you only earn £30,000 per annum. Even if you went on a minimalist lifestyle, it would still take decades to repay that debt. That’s crazy; but that’s how bad things have become in our world. The article went on to add that these levels of debt will—more than likely—trigger another global meltdown if things continue to go unchecked, like it did in the late 1980s and in 2009.

Personal debt is also causing major concerns. The current figures from the Office for National Statistics, warn us that the average household debt in the UK (before mortgages are added) is approaching a record £16,000. Now get this: If the unsecured debt of people in the United Kingdom is divided equally, every household will owe close to £16,000. You have to remember that this figure does not include what we all owe on our secured loans—like mortgages. That’s frightening!

When you consider that the average salary in the United Kingdom was about £27,500 in 2019, this report is saying that people (on average) owe the banks close to 60% of their annual income. Is it any wonder that we are struggling to pay all that money back?

That’s why charities like the ‘Samaritans’ and ‘Christians against Poverty’ are continuing to report serious increases in the public’s use of their financial support services. It’s also why more and more ‘working’ people are signing on to use the services of Food Banks and Soup Kitchens.

My point is that people are hurting, and debt is the silent culprit. We are drowning in debt and don’t even know it. When I was growing up, I thought it was only poor people that were in debt. But today, the so called rich segments of society are even more indebted to financial institutions than the poor folks. That doesn’t even make sense, but it is true. All over the world, debt is literally killing us slowly.

    Financial Freedom

Only two to three generations ago, people prided themselves in Financial Freedom. They believed that by a certain age (usually between 40 and 50 years of age) they should be in a position to quit working for others—if they so desired—and start their own trade or business.

Their plan was usually to have enough money (or money generating ventures) to cover all their future needs. But they didn’t just stop there. They made it a point to accumulate wealth so that they could leave a handsome inheritance to their children and grandchildren.

Today, things are different. If things carry on as they are, my generation would be known as the generation that left staggering amounts of debt and bills for our children to pay. If you don’t believe me, check out what your national debt is. Virtually, every developed country in the world is in debt. Not to mention the developing nations.

Unfortunately, many of these countries will not be able to pay off those enormous debts for decades to come. I’m always very thankful to be living in one of the most developed and financially prosperous nation on the planet—the United Kingdom. And yet our national debt will be more than double our GDP by the end of this year. It’s truly unbelievable!

    Good News

If you identify with this situation or are suffering from the consequences of debt yourself, I have good news for you. It is possible to change your financial destiny by changing your financial values and habits. That’s right! You can change your financial future by changing your financial choices, values and habits.

You see, almost everyone of us starts out with a secular worldview of money. We learn to do what the people around us do with money. We purchase expensive labels and liabilities, because that’s what our neighbours and friends are buying. We get the latest expensive gadgets—iPhones, iPads, iMacs, X-boxes, Samsungs, Personal Computers, and home Cinema Systems—not because the older models have stopped working, but because we don’t want anyone to think that we have been left behind.

We buy this season’s fashion, shoes and handbags because some overpaid celebrity says they are what we need. We acquire things that reflect what’s happening in our society whether we can afford them or not. And, we treat money the way we are taught to treat it by everyone around us.

Unsurprisingly, we end up where everyone else ends up—wasting large chunks of our resources, mortgaging our future, borrowing like there is no tomorrow, and living in debt like all the other traumatised people around us. But it doesn’t need to be that way.

    A Better Way

Fortunately, there is a better way. A wiser way! That’s what this book is about. The way I am referring to, doesn’t often make sense to our carnal minds. That’s because it’s not the way of our world. But it works because it comes from the One who sustains the Universe by His Power and His Word.

Here is what I have learnt: If you learn to trust this God-honouring system I’ll be sharing with you, it will sustain and enrich you beyond your wildest dreams. If you do what God tells you to do with the money He puts into your hands, you’ll always have access to His limitless provision.

If you will reject the world’s crazy way of dealing with money and choose God’s prudent way, you’ll never stop living under an open heaven. And here is the kicker: When heaven is open over your life, everything you need to be a blessing in your generation is given to you in abundance.

In this book, I hope to give you a simple and efficient way of structuring your finances, so that you can get out of debt and begin to grow wealth fast. I will show you why you must declare war on debt; eradicate the thought patterns that lead to debt; and change the things you may be doing to sabotage yourself. I will also show you how to develop the values, principles and practices that produce real lasting wealth. Finally, I will show you what to do to tap into God’s unlimited abundance, which by the way, is so much more than money.

My prayer is that this book will lead to a heart and mindset transformation in all who read it. I know that’s what
