Release Marie - Mark A. Edwards
Chapter One
She wiped the tears from her cheeks as she hugged me.
Come on Marie, your making me want to cry now. I'll be visiting again for Christmas.
She continued embracing me, her sister, who happened to be four years younger than her at 31 while trying to hide her tears. I guess that as the older one, she shouldn't have been crying.
That's what you always say, Marian, but it always turns out that we see each other some four years after. It ought not to be this way. We are blood sisters,
I sobbed. I basked in the warm hands of Jeff, my husband of six years, as I watched Marian grabbing the handle of her black carry-on suitcase.
That's what getting married does,
Marian giggled; she glanced at the reflection of the light in my husband's bald head. I could tell she was smiling because of the thought of full freedom– it would have come in two months’ time, her divorce. Marian had all the more reasons to smile widely; Joe had been a wealthy pop guitarist and producer.
And I could only imagine how relieved Jeff was that my sister was leaving. He held on firmly to Lacey. She had curly hair like mine. Even though Lacey was only 3 years old she could sense that her dad wasn't too fond of my sister, Marian. Lacey really didn't mind her Aunt because she would always treat her with dolls and Blonde Dulcy candies.
Take care now, my little sweet pea; auntie will always love you.
Bye, Auntie Marian.
We all heard the sudden chime of the bell, which preceded the intercom announcement:
[Attention – Passengers boarding the 6:15pm flight to France, this is your last call.]
I’ve really got to run now, Sis.
We hugged each other, one last time.
Au Revoir,
Marian said after detaching herself from my embrace. She dragged her carry-on luggage without looking behind; she really couldn’t risk missing her flight. She waved at us, not so much Jeff. He waved back at her though while he hugged Lacey and I. He had a slight film of tears over his eyes. I knew for sure Jeff so badly wanted to see the back of Marian, as in see her leave. I knew for sure he couldn't have remained a hypocrite for another day over the three weeks that my sister stayed with us. I knew for sure he hated her just like the way fire hates water. The feelings were mutual anyways, cause Marian always thought I could do better.
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED beyond this point, Madam; please step back,
the female security chided, preventing me from looking on as Marian had her baggage scanned.
I’m just making sure that my sister is ok,
I shot back, peeping at Marian, who was looking all innocent as she held on to her hand luggage while firmly gripping her passport and boarding pass with her right hand. I knew for sure that was not the case; my sister was such a wretch of a woman and could help herself in any situation or ordeal. She was a warrior, a pretty one.
Miss, you can’t stand here; you have to step back.
Go get yourself a job,
I blew out. Lost in the emotions of the grayish day, I had totally forgotten that my husband and kid stood closely behind. You’ve never had a sister leave on a plane? You probably never been on an airplane yourself.
You had better behave yourself or I may have to call backup to get your arse thrown out of here.
This stink female, who called herself a security officer forced out. The up and down movement of her over weighted bosom was an indication that she was ready for an exchange, preferably physical. She took a glance at the baton that was hooked to her side, making her slightly unbalanced.
Marie?
It was Jeff; he knew it was time to interject; he knew what can happen when his wife crosses the line– in this case, I literally did. He pulled me back.
You better hold me, Jeff; I don’t want to beat this woman.
Bitch, whenever you are ready,
she answered, staring at her lone weapon, her baton.
Tell me Jeff, are these the animals who our tax dollars pay?
I questioned, infuriatingly while being pulled away from her by Jeff.
Animal like your momma.
What –did –you –just – say?
I asked, counting my words after making an about turn, abruptly. You said something about my mother? What do you know about my mother? Oh, you don’t have a mother – I guess you just popped out from some alley,
I huffed and puffed.
Yeah, an alley as big as yours.
Mommee.
It was little Lacey, looking all cute and innocent as she held on to the freckled face doll that her aunt Marian had given her.
Just cover your ears baby; mommy is going to fix the business of this airport rascal,
I answered calmly.
There is no need to get in the mud with this bad-mannered woman,
Jeff interjected. He pulled me away once more, quite embarrassed. He shook his head. Let’s go, Marie!
I complied and headed outside with my husband and our three year old daughter. I guessed there was no point in arguing with the security officer who kept pulling me out; my sister had already passed the checkpoint and was out of sight.
She’s got a problem,
I overheard the security saying to her fellow security officer, another female. She needs a leash...ha ha.
And so I stopped. Jeff could have felt the firm resistance while holding my hand. Come on Marie, we have to leave now; we don’t want our car to be towed away, do we?
I then started thinking about what would happen if our car was towed away. The hefty fines would erode a large share of our modest earnings. Plus, the little energy that I had left in me was to make up for the three weeks of privacy with Jeff that I did not have, due to my sister’s visit. I decided that I would not waste my last strength, starting world war five. I ignored the rude comments and headed outside with my family.
Wait, is that Sister Nadia?
I looked on at the medium built woman hugging and kissing the tall gentleman goodbye. He was actually her husband, John.
Just look at how she’s acting like she’s going to be missing John. She just can’t wait for him to leave so she can have her way with Tom, Dick and Harry – no pun intended,
I giggled while looking at Jeff, lopsidedly.
Marie, you need to be tamed,
Jeff responded.
It’s more than overdue – like three weeks.
Don’t be making Lacey eat so much sugar,
Jeff said as he watched our little girl eating the French candy. She’ll take forever to go to sleep.
Which means that we’ve have to wait longer?
No way.
Chapter Two
9:00 pm
I HAD JUST AWAKENED. I had no idea how long I had been knocked out for. It was that good. I woke up with blurred vision.
Jeff,
I gasped, just trying to make sure I was back from where he had taken me, cloud 9.
Honey, where did you learn those tricks?
Jeff baby, so power packed.
I had my long fingers exploring the meanders on his torso. I was begging for more trouble even though I was spent, tired. I figured that he must have been completely exhausted too. Raising that bull's head of his would be no time soon. I placed his muscular arm around my shoulders while resting my head on his chest. He took deep breaths in and out making it quite difficult for my head to keep still. All I wanted was a hug to put me back to sleep.
It had been three weeks, what the heck do you think?
You killed it, that I know for sure,
I smirked. You’ve really messed my hair up, bastard. Do you wish to do more damages?
I giggled while my husband ran his fingers through my curly dark hair.
Here.
He handed me some of the left over bar of the French chocolate that my sister had left behind. It really added some flavor. Which tastes better?
What are you talking about, Jeff?
He looked at me and then looked at the white Chocolate bar, mischievously making his comparison.
Are you comparing your wife with a French candy bar? Well, you should know; you ate both.
Quite delicious,
Jeff giggled.
Nutritious too...for healthy white teeth.
Marie, is there another woman like you?
"You should
