    Angel's Mercy - Rae Goldman

    Trigger Warning

This book talks about domestic violence in all its forms. Emotional, physical and even sexual. If you can’t handle that please don’t read any further. However; if you want to read about some kick-ass warriors, keep going. The women in these pages are not survivors, they are warriors.

    Disclaimer

The people and places in this work of fiction are not real. They are completely made up. You will find mention of real places but that is only to give a general idea of where my fictional town of Camden Falls is located. Any resemblance to real people is completely unintentional.

The Women’s underground Network does not exist to the best of my knowledge. Maybe this work of fiction will inspire someone to make it real. There are places to get help for domestic violence, you can find links, phone numbers and information in the end material of this book.

This project is a work of MY imagination, it all comes out of MY head. If you try to steal my work or copy it in any way, I will go to New Orleans, find a voodoo practitioner and have a curse placed on your entire family. This curse will make your children ugly, and your private bits will never work properly again.

    Chapter 1

L adies, Ladies I raised my voice above the sounds of chatter in the room. When nobody pays attention I reach under the podium. Raising my arm away from my ears, I depress the button on the air horn. Sudden silence fills the room. Finally I have their attention.

Who is your Pres? I ask

You are! echoes back at me

That’s right, I am, when I talk you listen! This is not a gossip session, I called you all here for a reason! Every eye in the room was now looking at me.

Blitz I call out. My techie stepped forward.

    What’s the sitch?I ask her.

Sherri Walker from the County sheriff’s office called me late last night. They got called out to the Gunderson place again. She answers

Groans filled the room. Everyone here was familiar with the Gundersons.

What did that pompous pig do now? Bitch, my VP interrupts.

Neighbor called in, sounds of shouting and crashing coming from the house. Blitz continued. Hannah had to be hauled into the e.r again. She’s got a black eye and possibly broken ribs. The place was trashed, broken dishes everywhere and furniture overturned.

A voice from the end of the front table called out, Were the kids hurt? It’s Bonnie, our Sergeant at arms.

Blitz turns to answer her, Far as I can find out they were at their Grandma’s for the night.

Clyde, Bonnie’s twin sister, speaks up next. What are we supposed to do about it? We’ve been trying to get Hannah out of there for 2 years. Every time we offer her a way out she defends the bastard!

It’s Doc that speaks up next, She’s ready. I treated her in the e.r. last night.

Yeah, said she was ready a year ago, but when we showed up she acted like she didn’t know what we were talking about. What’s different this time? Clyde asked

I ran a pregnancy test. When I told her that she is expecting again, she broke down. Seems Hannah hasn’t been his only target lately. Doc says.

Blitz how long before the Sheriff lets him go? I ask

I figure we got about 2, maybe 3 hours. Sheriffs only gonna hold him long enough to make it look good. That old Douche Canoe ain’t gonna let his best buddy sit one minute longer than he needs to. She answers

Shark, call Mother Hen and find’em a spot. Bonnie and Clyde get the cage ready. Make sure you got a baby seat, the little one is barely a year old. Foxy, Widow and Compass, you got escort duty. I hand out assignments and dismiss the meeting.

We have to move fast before Hannah chickens out again. Her husband has been beating on her for years now, and we’ve been nagging at her to get out but you can’t help someone that don’t want to be helped. You just gotta wait until they’re ready.

I’m walking out the door when Bonnie stops me, Angel, can we grab a couple prospects to watch our six until we get out of town.

Yeah put Sam on the road out to Gunderson’s place and have Meg keep eyes on the highway exit. I tell her before I head for my office.

The hardest part of getting women out of these situations is the women themselves. Once we get the ball rolling it happens so fast most of the people involved end up with whiplash.

We’ve come a long way since the Devil’s Minions rode into town, took out the men and rode out. Never expecting the Sons of Lucifer would become the Daughters of Lilith.  At 25 years old I’m running one of the only, all female motorcycle clubs in the state of Wisconsin.

After about an hour of trying to distract myself from the Gunderson situation, there is a knock on my office door.

    Come in, I call out

Alecia, one of our prospects, enters wringing her hands.

    What do you need?

    Umm, she hedges

Out with it Alecia, I haven’t got all day.

I’m pregnant. she finally blurts out and tears start pouring down her face.

What do you want me to do about it? I ask. I may be the club's President but I can’t be nice to the prospects or they’ll walk all over me, been there and not going back. You lay down with Dawgs and don’t use protection that’s on you, not the club. Dawgs is what we call the men that hang around. We brought them in to help rebuild and they’ve stuck around.. We even have a bunkhouse out back where some of them live full time, we call it The Kennel.

The father isn’t one of the Dawgs. she says

Then why are you coming to me? I am not your mother.

I...I’m scared. She puts her hands over her belly even though she doesn’t have a bump yet. The father isn't a good man.

That gets my attention more than anything else she has said. Alecia when you applied to prospect, I told you, we all told you, to tell us if you were in a bad situation! Now I’m angry.

I want to learn to be stronger. I don’t want to be weak. I want to fight for myself. I thought I had more time. I think he did something to my birth control pills. she ends sobbing.

I grab my cell phone and send out a text.

Pack your shit. Bonnie and Clyde are out delivering a package. You’re going with them. I didn’t think the girl could cry any harder, I was wrong.

You, you’re kicking me out? She falls on her knees, Please please don’t make me go.

Pull yourself together,I’m not kicking you out. I’m sending you to the WUN. You’ll be our liaison, until you decide what you wanna do. You’ll be safe there, Mother Hen will teach you how to defend yourself.

    What’s the WUN?

The Women’s Underground Network. We get the women out, they set ‘em up with new identities, new jobs and teach them how to fight.

Alecia sprints for the door, but turns back before opening it. Unfortunately I’m right behind her. She throws her arms around me in a hug.

Thank you Thank you Thank you. she gushes

Hurry up and pack your shit. The package they are delivering is hot and needs to get out of town fast.

Fifteen minutes later I watch out the window as she throws her bag in the back of the minivan and jumps in. Compass is in front of the van on her bike, Bonnie is behind the wheel with Clyde riding shotgun. Foxy and Widow are bringing up the rear, as they hightail it out of town.

Foxy and Widow are newer additions but Bonnie and Clyde have been by my side since the beginning. I trust them with my life.

It’s only a few more minutes when I get a text from Meg. The package is out of town. I tell her to stay in position for
