Then Along Came Jade

About this ebook
Vikky just cannot wait until that special day comes. She has got intentions that are completely the opposite of her super flawless beauty and glamour; let's just say ugly intentions. The day she becomes Vicktoria Fullhorn (after getting into wedlock with Charles) is the day she gets the key to the wealth and power of the Fullhorn's empire which she plans on taking over even if it means ruining it and even anyone that comes in her path. Then along came Jade – A peasant girl who runs away from the unsophisticated life and a cruel 'so called' step-father in the country. She works for Vikky's soon to be in-laws as an underpaid apron girl who needs to learn to survive in the most unkind conditions presented to her.
Vickky is all about the glitz and fashion while Jade only knows torn clothes and hems; they undoubtedly have one thing in common – beauty; this could lead to them sharing something else in common.
What happens when two pretty females realize that they are up against each other?
Stuff happens...Not necessarily pretty stuff.
"Jade who?"

JADE WHO?
Prologue
Why did I leave? There is not another child quite like Olivia. Charles is such a gentleman. They happen to be the only caring people I know around here; like father, like daughter. What on earth does Charles want with me, a simple peasant girl like me? Could he ... no, that couldn’t be; I just wouldn’t be good enough for him; obviously I’m not his kind of girl. Is it that he is just a nice person or is it that he figures that Vikky is a monster? He is so handsome and very powerful too; he could get any beautiful and modern woman to literally fall for him without even moving a muscle. Maybe he is like the other good-looking males around who only want one thing from Jade. Maybe I would have allowed him to ... because he is different, kind and caring; maybe I would have allowed him because of his darn good looks and charm. Maybe I would have allowed him because I am not even good enough to tell him no or maybe I would have allowed him because I feel like a princess when I am around him.
_______________
I really shouldn’t have left without personally saying goodbye to Charles; at least I could have thanked him for letting an apron girl feel like a princess. I could have thanked him for not taking advantage of me when he more than had the chance to.
COULD SOMEONE TELL me why on earth would the pretty rich girls envy a peasant?

O h darn, what day is today?
Jade rolled her plumpish body from her bed onto the floor of the two roomed cabin. Such a manoeuvre did not hurt a bit, as her bed was actually the floor, being masked with a thick, white towel she received from her local church last Christmas. That pixie gift (the first she has ever got in her 23 years of existence), transformed a cold, unkind area into her fortress, her lair. Jade could remember when her previous place of rest was an old wooden table top.
Oh today is Thursday; this is the day I don't eat a cooked meal, she thought as she rubbed her bluish eyes. I'll just have to take another 15 minutes and hunt some fruits when I'm up. That’ll keep me today, for a while at least.
Jade was ridiculed most of the times for her bluish eyes and her last name; she has always tried figuring out where she got this unusual trait because a young woman with her complexion would normally have black or dark brown eyes. She thought she may have got them from her dad who she has never met or heard of. Whenever she enquired about her dad or what his name was it would often result in a heated and bitter argument between her and her mother. As far as her mother was concerned, Jade did not have a father or he never existed. Jade figured that her last name, Conquer was probably a gift to her by her mother as a way of making up for the fact that she may not have known the surname of the man who was supposed to be the father of her child.
Twenty Minutes Later
Tommy, are you flipping crazy or what!
she yelled.
She was awakened from her nap by cold water trickling down her back and onto her towel. Her spoiled brat of a step-brother was always messing with her and knew exactly how to provoke her to wrath.
Get up off your bum, you blue eyed alien,
he giggled.
He threw the cup away and dashed as she made after him with a broom.
You son of a bastard, don't let me catch you!
Jade’s chase was interrupted by William, her step-father, who she preferred to call her mother's beau. Her mother had lived with him for the past four years, immediately after being made redundant from the Nufield's Guess House where her mother worked as a cleaner.
"Stupid, how dare you call your little brother 'son of a bastard', and who are you referring to as
