BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! The alarm clock sounded. A moment later, a hand reached out from under the covers and slapped the annoying clock to snoozed. The hand was then retracted underneath the warmth of the blanket. Five more minutes, a muffled voice mumbled from beneath the covers. And then, five minutes later, the process was repeated. However, the bedroom door opened at the same time.

Trevor! Get your butt out of bed. You’ll be late for school.

Five minutes, Dad, Trevor mumbled.

I don’t think so. Jake Jackson walked into his son’s room and yanked the covers off him. Get on up, boy, and shake a leg. You’re burning daylight."

Geez, Dad! Can’t ya’ let a man get up on his own?

Jake laughed. When I see a man, I will. Now get up. Your mom is making pancakes. Jake started to leave the room, but then turned back and added, By the way, son, happy birthday.

Thanks, Dad. Trevor grinned. How about letting me skip school today and sleep in. It would make a great birthday gift.
