    Don't spend beyond your means!

    Save your money!

    Don't open too many credit cards!

    Pay more than the minimum payments on your debt!

    Guess what, I did the exact opposite!

    Why? The truth of the matter is, I was stubborn and wanted to do things my way. I gave myself the illusion that I had things under control. But, in all actuality, I was insane! I was repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting something different to happen.

    It was all great, sound advice and is, for the most part, easy to follow. I had very little knowledge and understanding of the importance of debt and the impact it had on my credit, which didn’t help my case at all. Unfortunately, I didn't choose to understand, I chose the hard way; this way led me out of freedom and into debt! And by the age of 24, I was in over $40,000 debt. Most 24-year-olds I knew weren’t in debt and were enjoying their lives, living free.

    How is it possible that I was living at home with my parents and still thousands of dollars in debt? I had a car loan, unpaid traffic violations, credit cards, medical bills, and student loans busting through my door and taking me as their prisoner. The
