He belongs to the Ibo tribe. During the twenty-eight years he spent in Nigeria, he completed his elementary, secondary, and tertiary education. He is one of eighteen children.
Against all odds, Obi steadfastly waded through school to complete his medical school training. He longed to practice medicine in the United States, as he expressly stated in his graduation yearbook. His dream came true when he moved to the States in 1998, following graduation from medical school in 1994. He successfully completed a three-year internal medicine residency training in a New York hospital in 2004.
His views on life have been shaped by these two divergent worlds. He has come to realize that life gives you what you put into it, and that life is not to be taken for granted. He currently serves as a board member in his local church. He loves golfing but cannot get enough of it. He works as a physician in Statesville and resides in Salisbury, North Carolina, with his wife and two children.view less
