    King David became too old

    Text: 1 Kings 1:1-4, Joshua 23:1-3

    Memory Verse: Eccles 3:1

    Introduction

    Life is in phases. There is a time for everything. Eccles 3:1-4

    David was such a great warrior and king. He built the kingdom of Israel and gave her all the glory.

    There was no nation as great in those days, neither was there any king as honourable as David.

    However, just like all his progenitors or ancestors, David became too old to continue. In the story read earlier we saw how Joshua also became too old to continue as the leader of Israel.

    It happens every time, to everyone.

    Meanwhile, we must observe that David found favour in God's sight that he became the yardstick by which every other king after him was measured.

    Although we are not here studying David, but we need to understand that his relationship with God was so intimate and every one attempting to replace him would have a lot to do.

    He could no longer maintain the expected body warmth, and his people had to marry another virgin for him.  But he could not consummate that marriage.

    Implications

    Make hay while the sun shines.

    a)      Work hard when you are young, and the strength is there; a time comes when you won't be able to work.

    b)     Old age is a big challenge. For instance, as a woman it pays to have your children before 30.

    c)      The life of man is like a farming season: don't fail your planting season so that you would rejoice in harvest. Procrastination is dangerous in life.
