going to Amma and Kalki? the 21 day course? Amma’s ashram, Nemam?

    or thinking of going?

Can a person just wander into the campus and sign up for the course at Golden City? It might be difficult, because there are high walls and a guard gate at the campus entrance. You might not be granted entrance. Also, even if someone were called to the gate to meet you and permit your entry, the course might already be filled. Plans are made in advance, and one must fill out an application and be accepted for the course.

For US residents to sign up for the 21 day course, begin online at www.onenessmovement.org. For other countries, find your coordinator at http://www.onenessuniversity.org/ps.htm.

Bring 2 extra passport size photos with you for registration in the dorm when you arrive. I was able to use xerox copies of my passport for this purpose.

During the 21 day course, you likely will take a day trip to Amma’s ashram. It is two hours plus from the Golden City campus. You might want to spend extra time there, by going prior to your course or staying after it near Amma.

Amma’s ashram is called Nemam. The telephone number from the US is 011-91-44-2627. 3354. . When telephoning in India, leave off the 011 and the 91, and add a zero before the 44. 044 is the Chennai city code. You will most likely speak to Kamala Kannan, the man who will book your room. He speaks fluent English. Please say hi to him from me, he knows me by my spiritual name, Nadhashree!

If you are going to Nemam, it is important to try to book your room as early as two or three months ahead of time. There are few rooms there, and are often filled fast by the Indian people who know to book in advance.

If you book a room in advance with the instructions below, even if your class group arrives and are told that there are no rooms available, that does not apply to you; yours will be available. And you can share it with others if you wish.

The accommodations office opens at 11 am. Indian time is 12 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Pacific Time. It will change with daylight savings time.

On the internet, click on http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_IN.aspx to find India’s local time. So you will have to phone at around 10:30pm Pacific time to try to book your room. If you are not successful in booking a room, call weekly, because there are cancellations.

If you have not gotten a room in the ashram when you arrive, you can commute from your hotel. Each day, stop by the accommodations office, and ask Kamala Kannan if any rooms have opened up. I was able to get a room twice this way, on two different visits. The accommodations office is located by the back gate, 100 yards or so to the left of the main gate, as you are facing it.

Another option is to leave your excess luggage in your hotel, and stay in Nemam’s huge dormitory rooms with only one suitcase. Many people are in one large room. The Pandian Hotel, where I stayed, lets people check luggage and leave it safely with them. Of course, you could bring all your luggage with you and stay in the dormitory room if you want. Then, you could return to the hotel prior to going to the 21 day course, get your luggage, and get picked up for the 21 day course at that hotel.

If you cannot confirm a room at Amma’s ashram, make a reservation at Motel Highway. It is about a ten minute drive from Nemam. The telephone number there from the US is 011-91-44-2627.2420, or 2627.3301, or 2627.3302. Some people there speak better English than others. Mr. Rao speaks very good English, and is a sweetheart who loves to give good service.

At Motel Highway, there is a temple in the back, by the cabins. Just walk back on the driveway to the left of the motel. There is a short service at 8 am, and again in the evening. It may be at 6 pm, but I don’t remember for sure. Motel Highway’s address is 89, Bangalore Trunk Road, near Poonamallee, Chennai 602107.

You can pay for your stay there and at other hotels with a credit card. I suggest just paying for the first day in case a room frees up for you at Nemam. Also, it is perfectly fine to book a room here, and then cancel it if a room at Nemam becomes available.

If no rooms are available at Nemam or Motel Highway, the next closest hotel is Ashok Residency. It is a longer drive to Nemam, about a half hour. For this reason it is less desirable. Their telephone number from the US is 011-91-44-2476. 1137. Make a reservation there, and continue to check if something opens up at Nemam or Motel Highway.

I had to do that the last time I went to Nemam. Nemam was full, Motel Highway was full. So I
