Wrong Faith in love - Manvi Thakur
Chapter-1
I
t’s a beautiful morning, with birds chirping, the wind gently flowing and caressing the skin, a green grassland, and a girl with shining eyes and beautiful, glowing skin, akin to a doll, roaming and chuckling loudly. An ambitious girl who always lived her dreams and enjoyed herself.
Yes, I’m talking about myself. I’m Isuel. I loved living in dreams and enjoying my own company, but one thing I also cherished was my family. I have a beautiful family, so let’s meet them.
My dad works tirelessly the whole day. He works for a company as a supervisor, so he's always busy during the day, but in the evening, he dedicates all his time to us. My mom cooks the most delicious food in the world, and I adore it. I also have two siblings.
They can be a bit dull, like my brother Arthon. He's a genius, always buried in books. I don’t know how he manages to read so much. Ah! He can be quite dull. As for my sister, Erica, she's not only very pretty but also smart, unfortunately. I guess you could say she's a beauty with brains. But in the end, I have the best family.
Isuel, come, Mom is calling you,
said Arthon.
Okay, coming,
I said, closing the diary, whatever I was writing.
Hey, Mom, what are you doing?
I asked.
Nothing, honey, just making dinner for my lovely kids,
she replied with a smile.
Okay, Mom, can I help you?
I offered.
Sure, manage the dinner table,
she said.
Okay, Mom,
I said, taking plates to set the table.
The doorbell rang, and Dad arrived.
Arthon, open the gate; your dad's here,
Mom instructed.
As Arthon opened the door and took Dad's bag, he asked, Dad, how was your day?
Pretty good, dear,
Dad replied.
After Dad settled at the dinner table, Mom asked, Honey, are you okay? Is something bothering you?
No, I’m alright, don’t worry about me,
Dad reassured her with a smile.
Erica teased Dad, causing Mom to laugh along with her.
I smiled, observing everyone. I had a happy family. I wished to freeze these joyous moments, to dwell in them where my whole family smiled, for there was no better moment for me.
Isuel, what's on your mind?
Mom asked.
Nothing, Mom,
I replied.
Okay, then take your dinner and enjoy,
Mom said.
After dinner, everyone retired to their rooms. Mom and I remained in the kitchen.
Mom, go rest. I’ll clean the kitchen,
I offered.
Are you sure you can handle it alone?
Mom asked.
Yes, Mom, I can do it,
I assured her.
The next morning, Mom called out, Wake up, everyone! Breakfast is ready. Arthon, Erica, wake up, you have to go to school. Isuel, check if your siblings are awake, and also see if your father is still sleeping.
Okay, Mom,
I responded, heading to wake my siblings.
Hay, you two, get up; you have to go to school,
I said, nudging them.
I went to Dad’s room. Dad, are you awake? What's wrong? Why aren't you answering me? Dad, please wake up!
I called out in alarm.
At that moment, I realized we had lost everything. I had lost my father.
Mom rushed in, Honey, what happened? Isuel, what's wrong with your dad? Why isn't he responding?
I didn’t say a word because I knew he would never answer again. I felt like everything was over. My mother, who loved my father dearly, was now weeping for him, and my siblings, who used to smile, were now broken. The happiness in our family was shattered, and who was to blame?
With overwhelming pain and a heavy heart, I had to gather my strength for my family. We performed the last rites for my father, but the joy of our home was lost without him.
Days passed, and as Mom continued with household chores, I noticed the absence of her smile. My brother secluded himself in his room, bearing his pain silently. My little angel of a sister lost her mischievousness and innocence.
Everyone is trying to engage them, but we also need money, so I have decided to take all the responsibility for my family. I started working hard, but as an undergrad, I haven't been able to secure any jobs in reputable companies or outside of town. Eventually, I found a job as a waitress in a hotel, and I agreed because we needed the money. I informed my mom about the job.
Mom asked, Dear, are you sure you want to take this job?
Yes, Mom, I really do. We need the money, and without graduation, I can’t secure a proper job. Don’t worry, Mom, I have only four months left until I complete my graduation. After that, I’ll leave this job and apply to good companies,
I assured her.
Mom expressed her concern, Honey, promise me you will not do anything wrong and you will take care of yourself. I’m worried about you; that’s why I’m saying, please take care of yourself.
Okay, I promise, Mom, don’t worry,
I said.
Okay, I trust you, dear. Now go and freshen up; I’ll make something for you,
Mom replied.
Okay, Mom, I’ll come to eat; my stomach wants some food,
I said.
The next day, with a new morning and a new start, I knew the upcoming time would not be easy, but I resolved to do my best and work hard. Someday, Dad would be proud of me.
Good morning, Mom,
I greeted her.
Good morning, dear,
Mom responded.
Mom, have you made my lunch? Because after my shift at the hotel, I have to go to another place for accounting,
I inquired.
Yes, honey, I have made it,
Mom confirmed.
Okay, Mom, I’m going,
I said.
Mom called out, Wait, take your lunch box and eat on time,
as I stood by the gate.
On the first day of my job as a waitress, thoughts raced through my mind. It might be hard or it might not be. The hotel manager greeted me, First day of your job and you’re on time, that’s good. Now go, change, and wear your uniform.
Okay, sir, I’ll change within 5 minutes,
I responded.
In the dressing room, I found the uniform too short for comfort. I mustered the courage to speak to the manager, Excuse me, sir, this uniform is too short. Can I serve in my own clothes? I can’t wear this.
I hope you will understand, please,
I added.
The hotel manager insisted, No, you have to wear this if you want to work here.
As we debated the dress code, a stranger arrived. I couldn't see his face as he stood behind me. He intervened, saying to the hotel manager, If she doesn’t want to wear a short dress, don’t force it. Let her wear a black T-shirt and trousers.
The hotel manager hesitated, But, sir, she will look different from the rest of the staff. How can you allow her?
The stranger responded firmly, Because I respect women and their choice of clothes.
The manager reconsidered, But, sir, please think again.
