You're probably wondering what this book is about. How can just anybody have their own TV channel?

First, let's distinguish between a TV channel and a TV station:

A TV station is a physical place where you have a camera to tape shows or to broadcast live shows. Typically, you have a line-up of shows and people are required to watch their shows at specific times.

A channel, however, is where you offer people options of what they can view when they want to. Examples are: Netflix or Amazon channels.

Yes, you can build and publish your very own television channel. All you have to have is a basic understanding of how to work with images and video files. You need to have server space for videos and images, but I can walk you through the basics of these concepts.

After reading this book, you will know how to build your own TV channel that can be viewed on Roku. In addition, I will explain why Roku is the best platform for you to build your channel.

I'll show you a way to make your channel without having to do any of the coding yourself. Your channel will be basic, attractive, and functional.  (You can hire a developer to give you more bells and whistles than what I’ll show you in this book.)

In this book, I'll be very specific about how you can set one up. I have a channel that costs me less than $100 a month. Setting up a channel is free unless you want to be paid for having commercials appear on your channel. (This is one of the ways you can make money with your television channel.

The current charge for having a channel that features advertising, is $50/month that you pay to InstantTVChannel. That's why I have a cost associated with my channel.

Once you have thoroughly read this book, you will be able to:

    Generate and edit videos

Find images and edit them for Roku

Link your channel to images to define the look and feel of your channel

Build the package file on InstantTVChannel

Upload the package file on Roku

Install the newly-created channel onto your Roku device

    Why Roku?

Some people argue that TV is on its way out, but data on current trends says otherwise when it comes to viewing videos. Here’s a chart that shows, that when it comes to video consumption, television is rising.

    Taken from Roku website.

    Cable is out

With the advent of streaming boxes, cable TV is on its way out. This is because streaming boxes do not come with a monthly commitment that is a built-in part of cable. Instead, consumers buy a streaming device, of around $100 and gets thousands of
