    INTRODUCTION TO PODCASTING

A podcast is a series of audio files that a podcaster creates in an mp3 format, which contains mainly their radio show recordings or any specific audio they want the audience to listen to. A podcaster uploads these audios using an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) file to an online server, which can either be their website or any other online website. The audiences then proceed to download these audio files, using any available program that has been established to download these audio files automatically so that they can listen to it at their convenient time using their mp3 or any other app. We’re well familiar with a TV program which usually has episodes released, from a whole series, at a separate time. Just like the TV program, a podcast is a series of audio files, while a podcast episode is an audio file from a podcast series.

It is essential to state here that a podcast is not necessarily an audio file; a podcast can be an audio or video series. But most times, a podcast is in audio form because the audience can listen to podcast audio anytime and anywhere. The audience can very much listen to a podcast on the go with their mp3 player, while you will always need a space to be able to watch podcast audio. Podcasts are just like a radio program. Each podcast developed will have a particular theme. E.g., Swimming and the podcast episode will be designed to talk about a specific area of interest in the subject, e.g., How to swim to prevent drowning.

A podcast episode usually consists of presenters or one presenter sometimes, discussing a particular topic of interest. It can involve guests’ interviews where the guest will be asked about his life, his interests, and his career. Podcasts can most time include some background music to make listeners get a feel of inspiration.
