How to receive television on an Android device

Recently I was asked to check the free-to-air TV reception in a friend’s apartment. There was an old socket from the original rooftop antenna, a newer socket for digital television, and an indoor antenna, but none were working well. Or was the problem the aging Samsung TV set?

The obvious answer was to take a TV known to work well and test the signal sources. But that could be awkward when the only one available is a 55-inch flat screen..

Android to the rescue?

Surely my Android could do the job? Well, not directly. Many smartphones available
