Withered Flowers an Anthology - William Manson

    Grandpa's Advice

When I was young it is true

Grandpa told me what to do

When people's words cut like a knife

No tears should fall..don't feel strife.

You're only as beautiful as what you are

Believe in yourself, honey, you'll go far

Oft' times it's just pot calling kettle black

No, you don't want to give 'em a whack!

Words can sting and make you hurt

But show that you're not filled with dirt.

Don't let dirty words pile up inside

Until your face you want to hide

First, know the truly genuine you

Stand tall as long as you stay true

To the very best you that you can be

Let words bounce off to fall and freeze.

Say a prayer so they may learn

    Showing kindness never burns

Someone's words I seem to recall

"If you can't say something nice

    Don't say anything at all."

    Whispers

As the ocean clasps the shore,

As the sun warms the air,

As the rain wets the earth,

As the breeze embraces the trees,

    So your love sustained me.

    Now you are gone,

and I weep, and I weep...

Yet, the ocean still clasps the shore,

Yet, the sun still warms the air,

Yet, the rain still wets the earth,

Yet, the breeze still embraces the trees,

    And I listen,

as the soft night wind whispers,

Weep not, my love, for we shall meet again!

    Mary Naylor.

    Crocodile Tears, Alligator Skin

Crocodile tears, Alligator skin, as long as I’m alive, no

    One will hurt me again.

Soft as a bunny, smart as a fox, running against time

    But hard as a rock.

Don’t come around, I don’t want to see your face,

Yours is not the kind of love I can embrace.

You don’t believe in give and take, it’s all your

    Way or none,

You never give a single inch, you figure to never be undone.

Whatever happened to the person I met? Your image

    Has faded with time.

I remember the first meeting and the next two years,

They were nothing short of sublime.

Slowly, unnoticed you started to change, the kisses grew

    Further apart.

You started staying away from home, how could I not

    Take this to heart?

You have taught me well, I’m on my own, all I need is myself.

I won’t wait around for anyone else. I’m done sitting on a shelf.

I will care for myself; I have a few good friends, that’s

    All I will ever need.

You will never understand the meaning of love, your love

    Is nothing but greed!

    A Child's Predicament (Hexaduad)

    I'll swim

    With Jim

    Somehow I've lost my shoe!

I don't know what to do

I just can't walk down on the ground

With dirty socks, I've looked around

    I must tell Dad

    He might get mad

A shame that I must tell

    My folks are gonna yell

    I don't wanna

    But, I'm gonna.

    Heaven Unknown

To my husband who died 4-27-06

    Heaven

    We think of it

    But do not know

The depth and breath of it

    Never shown

    Now you are there

    And I am alone

    Grieving and wanting you so

Til we meet again my darling

    My prayers will be

    That Heaven is a place

    God has promised thee

    Until I come to you

    Keep a place for me

    Once again we will unite

And one we shall again be.

    I miss you so.

    A Dream By Viola Tabor.

One night I had a dream

I saw a woman walking by a stream,

She looked as if she had a care

And I knew she had a cross to bear,

She stopped and at me she did stare

She waved for me to come over there,

You are crying child, this woman said

I replied, my mother is dead,

Then I looked into her eyes

And it was to my surprise
