About this ebook

One out of three women become victims of violent crimes. Don’t become a statistic. It’s called the Point of No Return. You’re walking through a dark parking lot to your car. Suddenly, you hear someone running up behind you. On your way home late one night, you stop at a traffic light. Because your focus is on the conversation on your cell phone, you don’t notice when a young man jumps from the car behind you. You look up to see him standing next to your door, pointing a gun at your chest. You stop to fill your gas tank. You go inside to pay, then return to your car. As you prepare to drive away, a man pops up from the back seat and puts a knife to your throat. “How do I get out of situations like these?” By the time an encounter with a street predator goes this far, you have passed the Point of No Return. You may live through it, but you will not get out of it! The right question, then, is not “What do I do when I’ve passed the Point of No Return?” but “How do I avoid arriving there in the first place?” Read this book now.

    Acknowledgments

My career has been blessed with the encouragement and guidance of many teachers, each of whom, and in his own way, significantly enhanced both my skills and my belief in my abilities.

I want to thank Master Jeff Bolt in Houston, Texas. He encouraged me to find greater refinement in the Chinese martial arts.

I am also grateful to Dr. H. H. A. Tony Cooper who, for years, encouraged me to write this book. It was his belief that I had something unique to contribute to the area of personal protection that finally convinced me to find a way to make it happen.

While the material presented here is my own, developed over decades in the protection business, no book such as this one is the lone creation of an individual. I knew what I wanted to say but didn’t know how to say it, so I invited John Coats, one of my students, to help me write the book. His skills as a writer helped me translate my material into a language easily understood by a nonprofessional.

Finally, I dedicate this book to my daughter, Megan, hoping that she and all daughters, wives and mothers will be kept safe after reading it.

    Introduction

My name is Marc Golubic. Before you read my book, you may want to know a little about who I am and what I do.

I am a Protection Specialist. Usually, people come to me because (1) there is the possibility that someone may try to harm them or (2) they know they are in immediate danger.

I have worked in the protection field since 1979. My clients have included individuals from the corporate, political, and entertainment world. While under my protection, no one has ever been harmed.

I have been mentored and trained by the best in the protection field. I know how the predators think and how they work, and I don’t like it! I intend to spend the rest of my life doing whatever I can to help you keep the predators away from you and the people you love.

Here are a few biographical details as well as a few of my professional qualifications:

    Reside in Houston, Texas

Graduated in 1977 from Tarkio College in Missouri with a degree in education

Executive Protection Specialist for the CEO of one of the world’s largest oil companies for eleven years

Cofounder of the Exodus Group, an organization created to provide training and education to victims of stalking and other violent crimes (one of my clients told her story on The Oprah Winfrey Show)

Instructor in firearms safety and training with an emphasis on Instinctive Shooting, a technique of controlled, reactive handgun shooting

Instructor in driving techniques designed to evade and escape pursuers, as well as how to elude when being followed

Senior Staff Instructor at the Jeff Bolt School for Kung Fu and Tai Chi in Houston, Texas

Advanced Member of the Nine Lives Association, a network of specialists providing protection in the private sector

Worked with the Nicole Brown Simpson Foundation from 1995 to 1996 specializing in cases regarding stalkers

Listed with the US Justice Department Victim’s Assistance Center from 1993 to 1996 specializing in cases regarding stalkers

Finally, I want you to know this: I have spent most of my adult life protecting people. I like what I do, and I’m good at it. I like the feeling I have when I’ve kept someone out of harm’s way. I believe each of you has a right to live your life without the fear of being raped, beaten, robbed, kidnapped, murdered, or otherwise harmed by the predators in our society. It is my mission in life to help you stop them—even put them out of business. I wish it were somehow possible for me to be there each time one of them is about to attack one of you. But it’s not possible. I sincerely believe that this book is the next best thing.

I hope you will carefully read this book then use what you learn here to make your life one that is more secure and more hopeful.

PS: Share this book with the men in your life. They may not admit it, but they need it, too!

    Prologue

It’s called "the Point of No Return"

You’re walking through a dark parking lot to your car: Suddenly, you hear someone running up behind you.

You live in an attractive, upscale neighborhood where fear of street criminals is nonexistent. One night, about ten o’clock, a four-man home-invasion crew comes through your front door, led by the guy who, unknown to you, followed you home from the grocery store last week.

How do I get out of situations like these?

This is a question I am often asked, and always, my answer is the same: You won’t get out of it! By the time an encounter with a street predator goes this far, you have passed the Point of No Return. You may live through it, but you will not get out of it!

A tragic case in point is that of the young woman who disappeared while on a school graduation trip to Aruba. Just hours before she was to join her classmates for the flight home, she left a nightclub with three young men she did not know well. At some point between the moment she left the club and the moment the investigation into her disappearance began, she passed the Point of No Return.

Was it her fault? Of course not! Could this tragedy have been avoided? Absolutely!

Some may want to convince you that there is no such thing as the Point of No Return if you know the proper fighting skills for self-defense. I promise you that nothing you can learn in a self-defense course or martial arts class will help you against a seasoned street predator. I’ll return to this later in
