Tiny Fractures - D. Warner
Parka-
Love will chill you to the core,
blow you over,
freeze you to the bones
It’s high time you suck it up,
save yourself
and buy yourself
a better parka
The Falling-
It’s the falling that hurts the most,
not the landing. The crashing
after the landing. The crashing
after the breaking and shaking,
after the shards and the fragments
split, splinter and spill apart.
It can't get any worse.
It can't be any more broken.
But the falling,
the leaping and plunging,
that is where all the hope happens.
That is where the faith comes in.
The belief that maybe this once,
Maybe, if you wish hard enough,
pray hard enough,
change your actions and movements,
maybe, this time you'll get it right.
This time you won’t crash.
Just this one time you will fly.
It's the instant, mid gravitational pull,
when you truly realize
that you were wrong all along.
That the earth is coming too quickly.
The landing is already in view.
You jumped and hoped,
plummeted, prayed and believed for not.
You're not a god damned bird.
You will never fly.
You will never manage to do anything
but fall and crash and break.
It's that moment that hurts the most.
The loss of hope, the realization,
the inevitable heartbreak,
the crash that cannot be stopped
and the fall that you blindly chose.
I Have Loved You-
I have loved you.
And I have felt the sting of your bitter bite,
when your words failed to hold any softness.
I have seen your face
resting content in utter bliss
and contorted in a cavalier glare of disdain.
I have drowned my bedding and soaked my sleeves,
crying for the pain I should have expected,
but foolishly I hoped wouldn’t come.
I have gone numb,
cold and tingly to your thoughtlessness and lies.
To your unfaithful wanderings
and the pit that aches, and burns in my stomach.
I have loved you.
And I have learned what it meant
to be but another pawn in your childish game.
