About this ebook

Grainger had been riding all day. Now he arrived at a saloon, somewhere in a tiny little town. The desert wind swept through the streets. There were exactly two of them, which crossed the center.

And then there was the saloon, the livery stable, the boothill, the church and the whore house.

A little further on is the train station, without which the place would probably never have existed.

Grainger stopped at the rental stable and got out of the saddle. He knocked the dust off his clothes.

Then he wiped his hand over his forehead after he had pushed his hat into his neck.

It had been so damn hot for weeks.

    Pay, Grainger - Neal Chadwick

    Pay, Grainger!

    by Neal Chadwick (Alfred Bekker)

    ––––––––

Grainger had been riding all day. Now he arrived at a saloon, somewhere in a tiny little town. The desert wind swept through the streets. There were exactly two of them, which crossed the center.

And then there was the saloon, the livery stable, the boothill, the church and the whore house.

A little further on is the train station, without which the place would probably never have existed.

Grainger stopped at the rental stable and got out of the saddle. He knocked the dust off his clothes.

Then he wiped his hand over his forehead after he had pushed his hat into his neck.

It had been so damn hot for weeks.

I'll take care of your horse, said the man from the livery stable. Provided you pay in advance.

    Sure, Grainger said.

He gave a coin to the man in the livery stable.

All right, he said. But I guess you should take a bath, too.

    Grainger laughed.

    Can you smell that?

    You can smell it.

Grainger smiled thin. Well, I guess that'll be necessary.

    Sure.

I hear there's a good whore house here.

No one's complained yet, as far as I've heard.

    That would be rare.

    Why?

Because usually there is always someone complaining about something, Grainger said.

    Tell me about it.

Take good care of my horse.

    You can count on me.

    Well...

Grainger took his things and left. He hung the saddlebags over his shoulder and took the Winchester rifle in his hand. Then he went to the saloon.

A few men turned around shortly after him as he entered.

And the women - there were quite a few of them. One prettier than the other, as Grainger noted.

    He went to the counter.

Put saddlebag and Winchester on top of it. And a coin.

"I need a room for the night and a bath
