In Matt Holden’s poems Nature comes alive, stirring the reader’s imagination and arousing the senses. His accompanying photo images not only complement his pieces but are themselves artistic compositions in their own right.

My friend, this is a great work indeed... I imagined far fewer poems or photos, you really did a huge job ... I will definitely download it to my phone and read them while I am in the woods, thanks for sharing.

‘Sunset Rails’
‘Sunset Rails’
‘The sun is fading but we’re almost home
The weary gypsies that love to roam The train is flying toward the finish line The enflamed horizon, red as wine
I can hardly wait to see my bed I can hardly wait to rest my head
Settle in, unpack, and sleep And dream of memories I keep

‘Armory Road’
‘Armory Road’
It’s great to take a stroll on the broken road behind the Oregon City Armory. You used to be able to drive on this road a few decades back, but seismic activity broke the road up. Since then the road has been barricaded and is only
accessible to pedestrians. Meanwhile the erosion continues….

‘The Octopus’
‘The Octopus’
An octopus passed through the woods today His body was scaly, his legs were gray
He slithered along in the usual way, and
Here is what he had to say:
‘A lovely wood, but I have to go Back to the ocean by stream, you know
I travelled far, but now I’ve seen
Animals, birds and evergreens Back home they won’t believe it’s true
Back home my friends are scared of you….
I’ve so much to tell them now!’ And with that, he took his bow I said, ‘Thanks for coming by To see the forest, sun and sky But I have to say in truth
I’ve never seen a sight like you!

‘Above All Things’
‘Above All Things’
As we go through life
And look back at all its experiences with the light Of understanding
We let go of more and more till there’s nothing left But the love we came to treasure—
Till one day
When we pass from this realm With the love we’ve earned And are judged, rich or poor However much or how little That amount may be
So God help us
To put love above all things
As we go through life
And look back at all its experiences with the light Of understanding
We let go of more and more till there’s nothing left But the love we came to treasure—
Till one day
When we pass from this realm With the love we’ve earned And are judged, rich or poor However much or how little That amount may be

To put love above all things
‘Sad Way’
‘Sad Way’
And this is a sad way to find out As I sit alone without a friend With all this freedom at my feet My love for you never ends
You hurt me, but I had it coming
Now I’m scared of you and running Till I stop dead in my tracks
Stop and look at the facts
I can never say goodbye to you I can never let go of you
So I’ve nothing else to do
But to sit here and wait for you
And this is a sad way to find out As I sit alone without a friend With all this freedom at my feet My love for you never ends
You hurt me, but I had it coming
Now I’m scared of you and running Till I stop dead in my tracks
