    I would like to dedicate this book to the inmates of Berks County Prison who did time between 1976–1986 in Reading, Pennsylvania.

    The Seasons of Man

    I am the poet

    I am the pen;

    I’m all the pieces

    the players the men;

    I am the soldiers

    that go off to war;

    I am the lover

    That comes home no more.

    I am the secret

    that floats on the breeze;

    I am the full moon the waves of the sea.

    I am the feeling

    I am the life;

    I am the husband

    I am the wife.

    I am the epoch

    The last curtain call;

    I am the writer that

    Come from a fall.

    I am the hope

    In small children’s eyes;

    I am the moment

    That waits between signs.

    I’m the disappointment, the terror of fear;

    I am all love

    and the cry of a tear.

    I am that glimpse

    at a moment’s despair;

    I am the heart

    I’m they who care

    I am the happy

    and the feeling of gloom;

    I am the specters

    The shadows in rooms.

    I am the sunlight

    the warmth of your days;

    I am you

    in so many ways.

    I am the lonely

    the strength of the right;

    I am the visions

    that come in the night.

    I am the rivers

    the bending of knees;

    the prayers on your lips

    the return of your pleas.

    I am all seeing

    and the seeker of truth;

    I am the verdict

    I am the proof

    I am the source

    of the feelings you need;

    I am the planter

    that sows up that seed.

    I am the words

    that inside you they lie;

    I am your fate

    the wonders of why

    I
