About this ebook
Contemplations on life, the nature of friendship and the various aspects of love and grief counterpoint verses reflecting on my pagan faith: a peek at the wheel of the year, interaction with the forces that share our world and the magic that is all around us.
Fantastical pieces that embroider in places on classic supernatural themes. In amongst these are thoughts on mankind's almost pathologically destructive nature and our impact upon this planet.
Sometimes humourous, sometimes solemn, occasionally both; a book of hope reflected.
This second edition contains an additional twenty-two poems, plus two replacements - and one full version where the missing verses were found after the publication of the first edition.

Julian’s first loves were science fantasy and magic; the blending of ancient and futuristic. This led him to a love of speculative fiction, initially as a reader, then as a reader and writer. He started writing at school, extended into writing role-playing game scenarios, and thence into bardic storytelling. In 2011 he published his first books, in 2012 he released more (along with the smallest complete role-playing system in the world). With over 30 books published in digital and physical formats, he has no intention of stopping this writing lark anytime soon, and he'd be delighted if you'd care to join him for a book or two.

Introduction
I started writing poetry while I was at school, and for many years it was my sole outlet for expressing the frustrations, emotional turmoil and dreams of a lonely teenager who was bullied and considered to be ‘a bit weird’.
As time went on, my poetry evolved to help me deal with personal issues and to frame my interests and yearnings. Due to what is commonly referred to as a broken home, it continued to be my refuge as I grew into a solitary young man with a facility for words overlaying the soul of a hopeless romantic.
Thirty-odd years later I found myself still searching for something. I was subject to newer and bigger frustrations, but they affected me in very old ways. One unchanging element was the desire to get my writing published. I knew my stories would take a while to write up and was about to defer the publishing dream once again when I had an epiphany: I probably had enough poetry to ‘do a book’.
I searched my home and collated all of my completed poetical maunderings into a single document. After many revisions, reminiscences and deletions the first edition of this book emerged.
Technically this is my second book of poetry. Unfortunately the hand-written volume entitled ‘And the Dead Shall Dream…’ contains far too much rough work to ever be released in its entirety. (Every poem from it that I consider fit to print has now been included in this book.)
Poetry is so very personal and subjective that I am astonished when people like the verses I come up with. I hope that this selection from three decades of writing provides you with poems that you enjoy, poems that make you think and possibly poems that help you get through your day.

It is just over two years since I published the first edition of This Mortal Dance. I have just published my fifth book and become a UK registered publisher. This book is where it all started, on a rainy day when I was mourning things I could not change and other things I thought I would never do - a new journey starting from the wreckage of the old; which is how it always should be.
This second edition contains twenty-two more poems than the first, in addition to two replacements and the complete version of ‘Another Light’. Annotations have been added where I remembered people had asked or suggested that I should. I think I got all of them.
I remain astonished that people like my poetry. I regard that
