Stanzas in Self-isolation - C. D. Melley
To my darling Catherine,
I know things haven’t been easy during this,
but we’re getting through this together.

Hacking Pup
I don’t know
what is wrong with my pooch.
He sounds like he is trying
to cough up a lung.
It all started
when we had to self-isolate.
Ever since
he has been coughing up a storm.
Unfortunately, due to the fact
my wife and I have had to quarantine,
we both are unable
to take him to the vet.
I think it’s all a bid
to get attention
because he doesn’t do it
all the time.
I only wish
he will stop it soon.
Because it has been worrying
the two of us to death.
Remote Schooling
As a result of having to
self-isolate due to these times,
all of our classes for the rest of the semester
are being taught via remote instruction.

my evening class has been done through
discussion threads, which harken back
to my message board days.
It conjures memories
of how I met my wife;
although, everyone in class knows
I’m happily attached.
It will be an adjustment
for everyone in the university.
But an unfortunate state
of current affairs.
Shopping Insanity
The other day
I had to venture to the local grocery store
in order to pick up
some necessary items.
When I arrived
twenty minutes before it opened
a line-up of people
had already began to form.
By the time the doors were unlocked
at least fifty people had amassed
calmly walking into the store,
but inside was chaos.
Paper products and cleaning supplies
were among the first items to go.
I was fortunate to obtain
what I was able to claim.
It is a sad state of current affairs
when essentials are a hot commodity.
But is a fact of life
in today’s crazy world.
Weekend Changes
For the past few years
I have had a weekend ritual
