Leadership Strategy and Tactics: Field Manual
is written by former U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink. The book is a smart, appealing, and a practical guide to effective leadership that works in personal as well as professional life. It provides leadership guidance to the readers from a historical as well as the contemporary lens. The book is categorized into two parts and seven chapters. The first part is on leadership strategies consisting of foundations, core tenets, and principles. While part two details leadership tactics which include sections that help readers learn how to become a leader, leadership skills, communication, maneuvers.
In the introduction of the book, the author writes about the roots of learning leadership. Taking us back to the time when he had reported to work on his first day as a Navy SEAL, he recollects that there were no manuals or set directions to follow in order to become an effective leader. His learning came from the On the Job Training, which helped him face the real challenges and tackle them with solutions under the supervision of an experienced leader. But as it is with many teams, even SEALs are not immune from imperfect leadership. Back in 1991, the U.S. military deployed SEALs in training young officers.
