Why We Can't Sleep: Women's New Midlife Crisis is an instant New York Times bestseller and one of the most anticipated books of the year written by non-fiction author Ada Calhoun. The author found herself facing a midlife crisis that she thought she shouldn't experience. She is married, she has her children, and she also has a good career. Despite having these, Calhoun still feels miserable. She realized that most women in this generation also feel the same way. Calhoun decided to search for some answers on how to solve this midlife crisis of Generation X women. She did some research into housing costs, HR trends, credit card debt averages, and divorce data. Calhoun found out a pattern in these areas. She noticed that between the Boomers and the Millenials, Generation X women were facing new challenges as they entered middle age. Calhoun also interviewed women across the country about their life experiences. Most of the women were exhausted, have problems with money, under-employed, and too overwhelmed. She said that instead of being heard, the women were told to get their lives in order instead of them taking a break or even me-time.
