Incomplete Without You - Melody Nelson

    Chapter One

She should have left the fancy restaurant the second it dawned on her that her date wouldn’t be showing up, but Jessica West found herself waiting, hoping that he was only late and not going to be a disappointment after all. It was at that moment Xavier Cage chose to walk into her life again. Literally.

Everyone in Phoenix city knew Xavier Cage. To be more specific, everyone in Phoenix knew the Cage family. As Jessica called them, they were a bunch of egoistic billionaires. They constructed ships and influenced virtually all the sectors of the city. The political sector always had someone from the Cage family. In the economic sector, you would be sure to find them. It was no news that their wealth helped to sustain the city, and in turn, they controlled what came into the city and what didn’t, especially if it was something that would threaten their dominance.

Of all the members of the Cage family, Xavier caught the attention of the city the most. As Jessica would put it, most girls in Phoenix were interested in Xavier. She didn’t blame them. It was impossible to resist his good looks – sea-green eyes that sent a sensation down your spine as they settled on you, chiseled face and charming smile like that of some perfect Romeo who had walked out of a love story. Xavier Cage also sported a burly-built physique with strong arms that any girl would want to get lost in forever.

While most girls would have loved to recollect their first meeting with Xavier and how romantic it had seemed to them, Jessica didn’t want to. She found herself lowering her gaze as soon as she sighted him walking into the restaurant, hoping with all of her heart that he wouldn’t remember her as the drunk girl who puked on his expensive shoes a couple of days before.

Jessica West? His baritone voice was something she would recognize anywhere.

It was too late. The handsome millionaire had seen her and had no difficulty in recognizing her. The only thing that surprised her was how he knew her name. She was just some city girl from a middle-class family desperately trying to keep her job.

Mr. Xavier, Jessica stuttered nervously and rose to her feet.

Oh, you don’t have to, He said, beamed at her and took his seat.

Jessica sat down, praying that she would not end up embarrassing herself again in front of him. He looked different from the first time they met, which must have been as a result of his new haircut. His now cropped hair made his perfectly chiseled face more evident. At the same time, she found herself unable to take her eyes off his dimples whenever he smiled.

Looks like you found our restaurant, Xavier began.

Oh, yeah, I just..., Then she paused after realizing what he just said, Our?

Xavier grinned, Yes, my family owns this restaurant. Actually, my sister runs it.

Oh, Jessica said and glanced around, totally unsurprised that this high-class restaurant
