About this ebook

Eros—His name means love in Greek and he was born on February 14th to an unwed mother who gave him up for adoption. He was adopted by an older couple in their forties and given a good life until he was five and they were killed in an auto accident.

Eros went back into the system and was never adopted but went through several foster homes. He hated his name and his birthday because his name always got him made fun of and once-in-awhile, he got beat up for it.

At Valentine's Day parties at school, he got very few cards from the classroom and was shunned by girls. He had a crush on a girl in seventh grade, save his money, and bought her some candy for Valentine's Day. She threw it in his face.

He was chubby, was only 5' 8", wore glasses that never seemed to fit right, clothes that were hand-me-downs, hair that always seemed to need cut, shy. He went to a couple of dances because his foster parents at the time pushed him into it, never danced, always turned down or made fun of. In college, his best friend talks him into attending Valentine's Day mixer and that is where he met her.

Jazzy—She is everything that most men want in a girl. Legs that seemed to stretch forever, blonde hair, green eyes flexed with gold, stood about 5'6".

She was also privileged, her dad worked as a stock market trader, her mom was the volunteer queen on committees. Jazzy could have any boy she wanted but she wanted one that wanted her for her, not as eye candy to hang on his arm and only wanted for her body.

After high school she decided she did not want to attend an Ivy League college but wanted to attend a regular college, out of state, hoping she could be a "normal girl," Her best friend talks her into going to Valentine's day mixer and that is where she met him.

    Chapter 1 – Valentine’s Mixer

E ros, put down that controller and get your butt ready to go. James told his best friend and roommate. We have to be at the mixer in thirty minutes.

Without looking up from my game, Grand Theft Auto 5, I stated matter-of-factly, I am not going anywhere, James. I am playing a game, I have my sodas and chips, so I am good for the night.

You need to get out more,

    No, I don’t.

It is Valentine’s day mixer. All the chicks are going to be there and looking for a romp in the sack. Easy pickings. So save your game, change, and let’s go. If we don’t get there on time all the good picks will be gone and I don’t want to be left with a dog,

I sighed loudly as I continued to play the game, totally ignoring James. I figured if I continued ignoring him he would give up and leave. Without warning, I saw his hand reaching to shut off the television so I said, Don’t touch the television. It took me forever to get to this point.

Halting his hand halfway there he asked, You going? moving his hand a little closer to the button to turn it off since I had the remote.

Fine, I said with a hint of anger in my voice as I reluctantly saved my game. I did not like to go to mixers, especially ones that happened on Valentine’s Day. That date seemed to have a curse on it for me put on by my mom when she gave birth to me at 2:14 in the morning. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts I turned off the game system and television, then stood up stretching the kinks out of my shoulders and back. Okay, let’s go.

James looked me over and asked, You are going dressed like that? You are definitely not wearing chick magnet clothes. Hell, those clothes will not even attract a dog. Don’t you want some action tonight?

I looked down at what I was wearing; black sweat pants, a baggie white tee shirt, and ratty looking tennis shoes. I didn’t see anything wrong with what I was wearing. After all, I was not looking for action and even if I was any girl I asked would turn and run away, which was the story of my life.

You are going to ruin my chances, James moaned.

Good, then you go have fun and I will stay here alone and have fun; probably a lot more than you will, as I sat down and picked up my controller, ready to restart my game.

    At least put on jeans,

James knew just how much I hated jeans. I could not find any that fit me right. I was a bit overweight with a beer belly, although I did not drink that much, and no six pack but more like a saggy twelve pack. If I could push some of my belly fat back to my butt I might not look so bad in them but jeans just hung there with no definition. I stomped to my room, digging out a pair of jeans and pulled them on, not bothering to change my tee-shirt or shoes. Walking back into the living room James took one look at me and threw his hands up in the air, shaking his head as he looked at what I was wearing.

What? I asked I put on jeans as you asked,

James did not say anything else but grabbed his keys and headed out the door. I grabbed my ball cap, slapped it on, and followed him out. The mixer was just across the campus at the sorority house, and we could have easily walked but James had just gotten a sporty looking car and like to drive and he likes to show it off, especially to the girls on campus.

When we got there I could hear the music blaring out of the open windows and opened the front door. I could already feel a headache starting in the back of my head. I figured I would stay long enough for James to get interested in a girl...or two and then I could sneak off. He would be so busy that he would not even know I had left. We got out of the car and he was immediately surrounded by several girls, but as usual, none surrounded me and I was okay with that. I decided that I would stay out on the porch away from the stench of cigarettes and weed. As I watched James head up the walk with a girl on each arm I knew that I could head back to our apartment and he would not even realize I was gone but then I saw HER.

Why the long face Jazzy? Andrea asked with concern in her voice. You should be happy and put that skunk Tony out of your mind and get back in the saddle. There are going to be hunks at the party tonight so get out there and find you one."

Jazzy turned toward her roommate and told her, Yes Tony is a skunk but damn it, I still love him. We were together for a year.

And I bet he was cheating on you the whole time,

Maybe but it is what it is, Jazzy said as she finished putting on her makeup. I just wish I could find a real man that would see me for who I am, not just for my body and money,

Are you for real? You’ve got it to flaunt it Jazzy. And those types of men are nothing but losers and not worthy of someone like you.

She knew that Andrea did not get it and neither did her parents. They told her that love was overrated. Jazzy was expected to marry a man who had money and prestige, whether they loved each other or not. Jazzy was different, she wanted the love that she saw in some of the older romance movies she watched. So far, Jazzy hadn’t found him but she was sure that he was out there somewhere.

Once she finished putting on her makeup, Jazzy pull on her tight black jeans that looked good with her red tank top with spaghetti straps. Jazzy was not well-endowed,
