Chapter 1 - Does God Exist?

Did you know that God has a plan already determined for your life? You may or may not have heard it many times. Many people have heard that God has a plan, but don't know what that plan is. Many people who have never heard that God has a plan, will be amazed at how thorough God's plan for you really is.

Why are so many confused about God?  There are so many questions, why do bad things happen to good people, why do babies starve, why do millions of people in third world countries continue to die each and every minute of every day?

Let's look at some common questions about whether God exists or not.

Scientific research—Observational and Historical

horizon To look at the question of whether God exists, or if he really is a myth, we must ask the question, what evidence do we have that he does not exist, surely Science and Technology are proving that God is a myth? 

In Observational science a theory is established that then utilises repeatable experiments to prove and validate the theory which when qualified, is accepted by scientists as a viable scientific principle. The principal is further validated when it can be measured and reproduced by others using the same experimental methods and principles, it then becomes accepted by the scientific community as scientific fact, until more evidence invalidates it, then a new theory is proposed..

An example of an established scientific principle is the theory of gravity, which by repetitive experimentation is now established as a scientific fact. Gravity can be described as a natural phenomenon by which all physical bodies attract each other. It is most commonly experienced as the agent that gives weight to objects with mass and causes them to fall to the ground when dropped.

Since science and technology deals with what is measurable and can be repeated by experimentation, in the case of God, the concept of God cannot be measured and qualified by experimentation, since God is Spirit (John 4:24) this known method of testing and repeatable experiment cannot be applied to God.

This explains why God, if He exists and is indeed spirit, cannot be seen  by the natural eye. Gravity is also unseen but can be validated by repeatable experimentation, the concept of God cannot.

Historical Science.

Historical science requires either making educated assumptions about the past by examining evidence in the present (historical or origins science)—or finding a primary source of information. While our assumptions could be accurate, it’s always better to start with an eyewitness account. Otherwise, our assumptions could lead us in the wrong direction.

For example, some geologists take present-day rates of radiometric decay and rock formation and imagine that the rates have always been the same. That’s why they think the earth is so old. But we cannot zip back in time to test this for accuracy, so this is not a reliable accurate way of determining the past.

What we can do, however, is check our historical research against a trustworthy eyewitness account. But what about for the history of the earth? Does something like that exist? It certainly does and this amazing compendium of history isn’t hard to find.

A Trustworthy Source

The Bible often gets attacked as being antiquated and anti-science. But that’s not the case. In fact, using the Bible as a framework allows us to understand why science is even possible and to make sense of the past from a solid foundation.

Starting from the Bible, given to us by the Creator of all things, we know when we’re on the right track

Hebrews 4:13  And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, and revealed to the eyes of Him with whom we have to give account.

Colossians 2:2–3  [For my hope is] that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in [unselfish] love, so that they may have all the riches that come from the full assurance of understanding [the joy of salvation], resulting in a true [and more intimate] knowledge of the mystery of God, that is, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge [regarding the word and purposes of God].

Since scientific methods cannot be used to explain the concept of God, there remains rational thought, logic and conjecture
