What If - Andres Gomez
Chapter 1
Hi, my name is Ben, Ben Thomas. I was born in 1991, 10 years before it happened. Today I turn 29. There have been hard times since it happened. I have done my best to overcome it, the incident.
I am a lawyer and one of the best in New York. I work in Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton law firm, one of the best in the world. I live in a small, cosy apartment in Soho. I live there alone, but I like it this way. It has one room for me, a living room, a kitchen with a big window, terrace and a bathroom. I enjoy waking up and opening my window to the morning sun, to see the tall buildings of New York every single morning. My favourite building to see when I wake up is the Freedom Tower. I love to see how its top rests above all other buildings.
Every morning when I wake up, at about 6:45, I go outside and run for about 30 minutes. I always run the same streets. My favorite of all streets is Spring street. When I am done running I go to a coffee shop and get my ice-cold coffee. I love coffee. I usually get there at about 7:30 but they already know me there so I ask for the usual, they have a thermos that I leave there so that I don't have to carry it there. When I'm served I go back to my apartment to have breakfast (I cook it myself and to be honest I am great) so I make myself my breakfast and eat while watching the news in the morning.
I love football and I am a big Barca fan. I also love the Gooners (Arsenal) but as a second team. I really love the Premier League, I always wake up to watch it no matter what time it is. American football and tennis are great, but I don't like them as much.
So when I am done with my breakfast my news program (Premier League has some great morning shows) and checking my FPL team I head off to work, my favorite part of the day. I ride my bike there because of global warming and everything. Usually when I get there I see my best friend James Wilson. It's pretty great working with him since it lightens things up a bit at work. He is a really fun guy. We go up together to the office.
I am a coffee addict. I take an ice-cold latte to work and enjoy my drink. I am pretty good at preparing coffee. I am thinking of one day opening a coffee shop in SoHo. But I rather do that when I am a bit older.
I really love my job! I enjoy every single moment that happens at work! Except when the boss gets mad at me. Well... nobody can like that. Work is very fun but sometimes excessive. At least I have James to work next to me.
I work in the morning and at about 1:00 I get my lunch break. James and I go get something to eat and we talk about our mornings, football news (it sometimes gets competitive since he is a Spurs fan, our rivals) our FPL mini-league and more. We usually go to our favorite, Shake Shack, they've got the best burgers ever, and their milkshakes are awesome. We always order the same, I order a shack burger with pickles, and crispy bacon, James orders a shack burger with bacon but no pickles and our milkshake is a Black and White, the best.
We have tried not to go there that much now since we went there a little too much. When we are done we go back to work and enjoy the afternoon. I like that since my office has a window I get the best afternoon views. I love watching the sunset behind the tall buildings of New York.
After work we go back to one of our houses to watch all the highlights in football, American football, and tennis. When we are done watching highlights we prepare dinner for ourselves and watch Friends, the best TV series in the world! We really enjoy dinner, and like at 9:30 one of us (the one that went to the other house) heads off back home. I go to sleep just when I get home but I always stay in my bed resting and thinking about the day.
On Fridays I get to leave early
