Counting Cars

My father was a truck driver who worked many hours and often came home long after sunset. Family was important to him. He thought nothing of the six-hour drive from Chicago to the southern tip of Illinois to visit his brothers family. I knew them as “the cousins,” and during the 1960s, almost every three-day weekend was spent at one house or the other's.
