There are so many benefits to the ketogenic diet and you can expect many positive changes, both physical and mental. So, don't hesitate to start this journey.
Eliminate temptations
We are sure to have a lot of willpower, but there is no need to compete with a kitchen full of sugar and carbohydrates. So the first thing to do is clean up the pantry, put everything in an envelope or in a box and give the loot to someone, you might even think about donating everything to a canteen for the needy. Anyone who receives this gift will appreciate your gesture and also, you will be well on your way to a Keto lifestyle.
If you have family, try to involve them, as it will be easier and more stimulating to start this journey together. If, on the other hand, family members should refuse to show solidarity, they can at least give you the courtesy not to eat carbohydrates or sugars when they are at home, or at least they will be able to avoid refilling the pantry you have just emptied.
Obviously, weighed in reality, the ketogenic diet does not require the tyrannical control of the balance, but by adopting this type of diet you can increase your body’s lean mass, that is the muscles, which have a greater specific weight than the fat and, you might notice a slight increase in weight while noticing a leaner look. It's great, so don't worry.
You should, however, have an idea of your starting point. If you have opted for the ketogenic diet solely to lose weight, you will be able to monitor your progress. But do not become a slave to numbers: it will be sufficient to check your weight once a week.
Your favorite foods
Perhaps the mere thought of giving up your favorite foods makes you doubt about starting the Keto lifestyle. Relax, it's just a matter of habit and prejudice. The truth is that every dish you love and you can't do without, you can easily find a low carb substitute that is equally tasty (cheesecake included!).
First, we consider the items on the market labeled as low in carbohydrates. Checking product labels may seem frustrating at first and sometimes it may seem like you have to be a nutrition expert to understand them. It is important, however, that you understand that low-carbohydrate products, too often commercially available, simply have sugar instead of carbohydrates, so don't be deceived! You must learn to read the labels with the same diligence you would use to read the testament of the old uncle in America who leaves you an inheritance and you absolutely want to know perfectly what is written there!
The best thing to do is to stay away from these products and simply find healthier substitutes. The same goes for anything labeled low in fat, which inevitably means added sugar. Do you want rice or mashed potatoes? Grate a cauliflower and you will not be able to distinguish them. You can't give up your favorite pasta dish? Turn a courgette into spaghetti, cut it or use a spiral cutter and enjoy your pasta.
Do you absolutely have to eat your favorite dessert? With the ketogenic diet you can. Just use almond flour and unsweetened apple sauce, or add some avocado to create some sweetness. Discover coconut oil, which can be used as a butter substitute to sauté, fry and cook. Coconut oil has good health benefits, especially for type 2 diabetics. With the ketogenic diet, you can enjoy all your favorite dishes and you'll have an endless range of dishes to experiment with.
