    A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

Black Economic Empowerment or BBBEE is here to stay whether we like it or not. Surprisingly, many of the black clients that I have worked with over the years, have been vehemently opposed to using BBBEE to as a means to further their businesses. Why you may ask? Well, I asked the same question over and over again and always received the same answer.... I don’t want handouts; I want to achieve this on my own.

I can understand this sentiment and while its hugely admirable... it is not particularly smart in my opinion. Our economy is under massive strain and even established businesses are suffering – so Eish Baba, but why would you not use whatever legal advantages you have at your disposal?

We all know the history of Apartheid and the consequences that have boiled over from it like lava from Mount Vesuvius. We are all impacted by its infamous legacy (albeit in different ways) and have to work together to repair and rebuild our scorched village. This takes time because the damage done has long lasting effects and new seedlings need time to grow and eventually blossom, hopefully without being suffocated by red tape, stomped on by corporate bullies or devoured by plagues of bureaucratic insects,
