Elijah
After Solomon’s death, Israel was split into two different countries. In the South, Judah had for King Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, whereas in the north, people followed Jeroboam, Nabat’s son. None of the kings who followed Jeroboam listened to God’s commandments. One of them, Ahab, married a woman called Jezebel and started adoring her god, Baal. Queen Jezebel was intent that the people should adopt her god Baal and had the many prophets who wanted to remain faithful to the true God killed. Time went by and, one day, a prophet called Elijah spoke to protect God and remind the people that God was unique. He told King Ahab that it would no longer rain over Israel as long as God would decide, then settled in front of a torrent facing the Jordan as God had ordered.
During the following three years, Elijah stayed away from people and paid attention to God. Crows brought his food and showed him the places where families could welcome him. During all that time, not a single drop of water fell. One day, God asked Elijah to return to Ahab. The latter, unhappy to see Elijah, told him: Why did you come back? You are a troublemaker; there has not been any rain since you left!
