Few introductions to a prophet’s ministry are more spectacular than Isaiah’s vision of God. In the year king Uzziah died (Isa 6:1; 740 BC), Isaiah saw God seated on a lofty throne with His robe filling the temple and seraphim declaring His holiness. Isaiah’s reaction was the only proper one a sinner could have: he was shaken to the core of his being. “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips” (v 5).
Yet God mercifully purified Isaiah for his commission
