Grandma's Book of Bible Poems - Norma Lee Watkins
Abigail, Nabal’s Wife
Abigail and her wealthy husband, Nabal were throwing an elaborate barbeque,
Roasted sheep, fine wine, raisin bread, toasted grains and figs were on the menu.
Meanwhile, their outer property was being inhabited by David and his armed
troops,
Meaning no harm but to form a barrier to wandering sheep, the army divided in
groups.
As night time fell and his men were hungry, David asked Nabal for food for his
folks,
Outraged Nabal refuses to comply and in David the dire consequence of this
invokes.
Word travels fast to Abigail that David will kill her husband and friends due to
disrespect,
Nabal may be sympathetic to King Saul, therefore, David his enemy he will not
protect.
Abigail set out to divert an attack by the army by sending ample food to the
hungry crowd,
She graciously bowed before David and his compassionate attitude in retrospect is
allowed.
Before David could leave their property, Nabal fell ill and suffered a fatal heart
attack,
Allowing Abigail to join him in marriage by love and loyalty that she promised to
give back.
Being married to a man like David, Abigail’s life is full of intrigue, suspense and
adventure,
Having to share him with many wives left her not knowing this would be a joint
venture.
Cain and Abel
Adam and Eve gave birth to Cain and Abel then years later, Seth was conceived,
With free and plentiful land and no government taxes, farm profit was
achieved.
The sheep and grains were the original money but with no one to share,
On occasion the family gave an offering to God giving thanks through prayer.
Cain plowed the fields by hand and homemade tools from trees and rocks,
While Abel learned to tame a few sheep which quickly grew to huge flocks.
Adam asked for both sons to bring in the fruits of their labor to the Utmost
Creator,
Abel gratefully obeyed and brought his finest lamb knowing
