Charlotte Ginster is good at her job. She is the manager of a large venue in Germany. When KJ, a world-famous hiphop artist performs on the premises, Charlotte works closely with his Chief of Security, Jake Powers. He is a professional, efficient former US Navy Seal and when she meets him in person, her world turns upside down.

At first, their budding relationship seems to be all either one ever wanted. Not even the distance between Germany and the USA seems to present a challenge. But when Charlotte moves, her past catches up with her and she has to end the relationship. Meanwhile, Jake is forced to take on a job in an Arab emirate.

Tirza Schaefer

Tirza Schaefer was born in Cologne (Köln), Germany. After she graduated from school, where she qualified in German “Abitur” and also attained proficiency in English and Latin (she also studied French for two years and Russian for one), she moved to the United Kingdom in 1991 and lived there for the next eight years. She first started to study for a BA Combined at SOAS (School of Oriental & African Studies, London University) in Comparative Religious Studies & Indonesian Studies, then changed to The London Metropolitan University, and graduated in an HND in Leisure and Tourism Studies and a BA in Tourism Studies with Marketing.. She moved back to Germany in 1999 to embark on a new adventure: being a mother of three wonderful children. At the beginning of 2015, Tirza started to publish her books, and with currently over 30 published, continuously working on more, she is a creative hothouse. In April 2017, an Arabian Mau cat called Taani from Dubai joined the family. In 2018 and 2019, she founded Goddess Reiki, and loves to write about and work with Goddess archetypes to explore her psyche and help clients in this process with their self-development. To this day, despite her many academic achievements, her many talents and skills, Tirza Schaefer has a progressive personality and always strives to expand herself in many areas. Chief of Security

Charlotte rushed around the backstage area, making sure that everything was organised and people didn’t dally around. Kenny Johnson was one of the world’s most famous rappers – or hiphop artists, (she still hadn’t figured out the difference), and it was a well-known fact that when he liked a venue, he tended to return to it on his next concert tours.

Charlotte had checked and double-checked. She had given last minute instructions and sorted out a couple of unforeseen challenges at the last minute and now everything was in place and running smoothly. The sound system worked perfectly and the first people streamed through the now opening doors. Through her earpiece, she was informed that the van with the superstar was now pulling up outside the stage entrance.

Guys, it’s showtime! she said over the intercom.

She rushed to the stage entrance, greeted Kenny, and introduced herself to him as the venue manager. Then she introduced Sue as his personal assistant for the evening.

If there is anything at all you wish for, you only need to tell her and she’ll make it happen. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll leave you in her capable hands. I have to keep an eye on things. We want everything to run smoothly, of course. Trust is good, control is better, I always say.

With a polite smile, she turned her attention from Kenny to the man she assumed to be his chief of security.

You must be Jake Powers, the chief of security? she addressed him.

Yes, ma’am, I am, he answered.

It’s a pleasure. Do you have a minute? It won’t take long. We can talk on the way.

Jake nodded his assent and together they followed the others, walking side by side.

I must say, I’ve never worked at a distance with a more professional security expert. It was delightful. I hope we’ll have more occasions to work together again in the future, Charlotte said.

Jake inclined his head.

Thank you. That is not a compliment I ever received from a lady before, he told her.

Charlotte laughed.

Well, you’ve certainly got a fan here," she admitted freely.

That’s an honour. I’ve enjoyed our communications a lot also.

He flashed the most charming smile at her. Charlotte was smitten. She liked KJ’s music, but the man was terribly arrogant and inconsiderate, and not half as handsome as his head of security. She wondered how she could get herself invited to the aftershow party. Jake would definitely be there, too.

A few steps ahead of them, KJ said something rude to Sue. Charlotte’s hair bristled. Sue was a young woman, very kind and obliging. She couldn’t have done anything to offend the man.

Charlotte, he is always like that offstage. Tell the girl not to mind him, just let it go over your head. He doesn’t really mean it. Artists are volatile at times.

Charlotte took Sue’s arm and held her back.

Excuse us just a second, she smiled at KJ, but unlike when she had been talking to Jake, her smile didn’t reach her eyes.

She told Sue in German what Jake had said to her and both women smiled over at the tall, powerful man who definitely had as much brains as he had muscle. His handsome face was tanned and alert eyes were set under finely arched brows. A straight nose with slightly widening nostrils pointed to the bow-shaped mouth which was full and strong like his slightly square, masculine jaw. Charlotte was melting each time she looked at him, but clad her feelings in a cloak of professional enthusiasm.

He’s just as intimidating, Sue whispered, even more so. He doesn’t have to say anything. One look and he can put the fear of God into you.
