Honey, I’m home! he called.

In the kitchen, Kathy replied. What are you doing back?

Marine Sergeant Brett Standish dropped his bag in the hallway and headed through the house, straightening his uniform jacket as he walked. He’d been long overdue for some rest and relaxation, and he was determined to make the most of the three days he’d begged off. Ten years ago he’d have spent the time drinking himself blind, but nowadays he had responsibilities. The time had come to start acting like a grownup.

Kathy stood before him, the number one reason for his lifestyle change, wearing one of his old lumberjack shirts and her favorite fluffy house slippers. She smiled broadly at the sight of Brett in his Marine dress uniform.
