Lady Of the Lake 2 - Charlotte Jenkins

    CHAPTER 1

    ––––––––

Anastazie stared in shock at the apparition before her. She had seen the face before. In fact, she knew who it was. That was the guy who she had saved from drowning about three weeks ago. He looked more handsome in a tux now. Was she imagining, or was this real? She almost reached out to touch him, but when she caught sight of the lady in the pink dress from her peripheral vision, she decided against it. She settled for his reality.

My Lady of the Lake, Andel gasped, forgetting every other thing in the room.

What? Anastazie thought in her mind. In that same second, her default feelings for him came up again- hatred. She didn’t know why she was angry with him. She had no reason to be. He had saved her life from herself just as she had saved him from the waters. That was enough to be grateful. However, she just couldn’t get past not liking him for wrecking her plans.

He got up and moved to hug her. I’ve found you! he cried.

Anastazie’s eyes widened in shock, and she moved back.

"Hey there, mister. You must not have noticed, but one of the rules of this restaurant is ‘No hugging of pretty waitresses.’ And it’s a major rule, so please stand back," she said.

    Finally, Amanda spoke.

    You two know each other?

Yes. She sav- Andel started to say, but Anastazie cut him short.

No, we don’t. I’m totally appalled by his actions.

What? Andel asked in shock. You saved my life back at Zelezna Ruda about three weeks ago, remember? You can’t forget.

Me? In case you’ve missed your way, we are in Prague now.

Andel was confused. That had to be some misunderstanding. He kept staring at her face till Anastazie became uncomfortable. She could see Franklyn heading in their direction with concern on his face. A lot of customers were beginning to stare.

Is there a problem, Anastazie? Franklyn asked when he was close enough to whisper.

"Oh, no. Sir just thought I was some Lady of the Lake," Anastazie said to Franklyn. Turning to the lady in pink, she said, " I’m sorry for the misunderstandings, ma´am. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please enjoy the rest of your meal. I need to leave now to handle other customers." She walked away with Franklyn towing behind her.

Andel sighed in exasperation. He had just embarrassed himself. What had he been thinking? What had come over him?

Maybe it was the one month of infatuation. You wanted to find her. You just did. Don’t be too hard on yourself, his inner voice said. He shook his head. No matter how much he'd try to defend his action, he knew he’d just messed up. There was no changing that.

I’m so sorry, Amanda. It’s just that I’d been trying to find her. It´s kind of lost when I did. He hoped she’d forgive him and not throw him away.

The look of concern on Amanda’s face didn’t give anger a shot at manifesting.

    Are you okay, Andel?

He was confused at her question.

I am. Why do you ask?

The person you think you saw doesn’t know you. Do you see things? You can talk to me, you know? I promise to help. I won’t judge.

Andel couldn’t believe his ears. He wasn’t sure
